Course overview
HR teams are increasingly expected to deliver faster policy changes, workforce insights, employee experience improvements, and talent programmes while managing shifting business priorities. Traditional annual planning, siloed specialist hand-offs, and lengthy approval cycles can leave HR unable to respond to recruitment pressure, reorganisations, skills shortages, or employee feedback in time. This course addresses the practical challenge of introducing Agile HR practices without treating people, employment law, or sensitive employee decisions as simple software delivery problems.
Participants learn how to apply Agile HR principles to real HR services, including recruitment, onboarding, learning, performance enablement, workforce planning, employee relations, and people analytics. They practise defining HR customer journeys, forming cross-functional HR squads, building and prioritising HR backlogs, writing outcome-focused user stories, planning short delivery cycles, and using Kanban and Scrum ceremonies appropriately. The course also covers measurable service outcomes, stakeholder governance, experimentation safeguards, and ways to integrate agile delivery with HR policies, controls, and confidentiality requirements.
Delivery combines instructor-led models with case-based workshops, backlog clinics, visual workflow design, and facilitated simulations. Participants work on an HR transformation scenario and apply each method to a live or representative service challenge from their organisation. By the end of the week, each participant leaves with an Agile HR implementation canvas containing a prioritised service backlog, operating model, workflow board, metrics set, pilot plan, stakeholder map, and 90-day adoption roadmap suitable for review with HR leadership.
The course is designed for experienced HR professionals, HR transformation teams, and business leaders responsible for improving the speed, quality, and employee-centred delivery of HR services.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Diagnose HR service bottlenecks using value-stream mapping and employee journey evidence
- Design an Agile HR operating model with defined squad roles, decision rights, and governance boundaries
- Create a prioritised HR product backlog using user stories, acceptance criteria, and value-versus-effort scoring
- Configure a Kanban workflow for an HR service with explicit policies, work-in-progress limits, and service classes
- Plan short HR delivery cycles using sprint goals, capacity assumptions, review rituals, and retrospective actions
- Measure HR service performance through lead time, throughput, employee experience, adoption, and outcome metrics
- Run controlled HR experiments using hypotheses, test groups, feedback loops, and privacy safeguards
- Produce a 90-day Agile HR implementation roadmap for a selected HR service or transformation initiative
Benefits of attending
For you
- Build the credibility to lead Agile HR pilots rather than relying solely on external transformation consultants
- Create evidence-based HR service improvements that can be presented clearly to senior business stakeholders
- Gain reusable backlog, workflow, experiment, and metric templates for HR transformation assignments
- Strengthen cross-functional leadership skills for working with IT, finance, legal, managers, and employee representatives
- Position yourself for HR transformation, people operations, employee experience, or digital HR leadership roles
For your organisation
- Shorten delivery cycles for priority HR improvements by replacing large design phases with tested increments
- Improve visibility of HR demand, work in progress, ownership, and delivery constraints across specialist teams
- Reduce investment risk by validating HR policy, process, and experience changes with controlled pilots before scale-up
- Increase alignment between business priorities and HR capacity through transparent backlog prioritisation
- Establish measurable service performance indicators that connect HR activity to employee and business outcomes
Target competencies
Who should attend
- HR Directors and Heads of HR — who need a practical operating model for making HR delivery more responsive and measurable
- HR Business Partners — who translate changing business priorities into coordinated people interventions
- HR Transformation Managers — who lead service redesign, digital HR programmes, or operating-model change
- Talent Acquisition Leaders — who need to reduce recruitment cycle time while improving candidate and hiring-manager experience
- Learning and Development Managers — who need to test, iterate, and scale capability solutions based on learner evidence
- People Analytics and HR Operations Managers — who improve HR workflows, service data, and cross-functional delivery discipline
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have practical experience in at least one HR discipline, such as HR operations, talent acquisition, learning and development, employee experience, workforce planning, or HR business partnering. Familiarity with core HR processes, stakeholder management, basic project delivery, and common HR measures such as time to hire, service-level performance, engagement, or retention is assumed. Participants should be comfortable using spreadsheets and collaboration tools to review work and create simple plans. Prior Scrum certification, coding knowledge, statistical modelling, or previous use of Jira is not required; the course teaches the Agile HR application rather than software development.
Training methodology
The instructor introduces Agile HR patterns through short, applied briefings before participants use them in structured workshops. Teams map an HR service value stream, identify employee and manager needs, build a backlog, and manage simulated work through a Kanban board and sprint cycle. Cases examine recruitment, onboarding, and employee-experience change, including governance, data privacy, and employee-relations constraints. Facilitated peer critique is used to test assumptions and sharpen measures. The final day is dedicated to converting course outputs into a realistic implementation plan for each participant’s organisation.
