Course overview
Bank customer acquisition teams face a difficult balance: grow deposits, cards, loans and digital-account openings without attracting unsuitable applicants, breaching consent rules, or spending heavily on channels that generate low-value customers. This course addresses the practical decisions behind acquisition performance: which segments to pursue, how to construct offers, where prospects abandon an application, how to measure channel quality, and how marketing, product, risk, compliance and sales teams can work from the same evidence.
Participants learn to build an acquisition strategy for a defined banking product and customer segment. They map the acquisition funnel from awareness through funded account or activated product; develop customer value propositions; segment prospects using behavioural, life-stage and value data; design paid, owned, partner and branch-assisted journeys; and calculate conversion, cost per acquisition, activation, retention and customer lifetime value. The course also covers consent management, fair-treatment considerations, offer disclosures, lead qualification and test-and-learn methods for regulated financial-services campaigns.
Delivery combines instructor-led analysis with banking cases, campaign data exercises and facilitated design workshops. Participants work with a realistic acquisition dataset and journey brief, using funnel dashboards, campaign scorecards and customer-journey maps to make decisions. They leave with a documented Banking Customer Acquisition Playbook: a segment and proposition choice, channel plan, compliant journey design, KPI tree, measurement plan, experiment backlog and 90-day implementation roadmap that can be adapted for their bank.
The course is best suited to professionals responsible for retail, SME or digital banking growth who need to move beyond campaign execution into commercially accountable, customer-centred acquisition planning.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Build a banking acquisition funnel that tracks prospects from first touch through application, approval, funding and activation
- Segment prospective banking customers using needs, value, propensity, life-stage and channel-preference criteria
- Construct product value propositions and offer architectures for deposit, card, lending or digital-account acquisition
- Calculate channel-level cost per acquisition, conversion rate, activation rate, retention rate and customer lifetime value
- Design consent-aware acquisition journeys with required disclosures, suppression rules and fair-treatment checkpoints
- Create a KPI tree and campaign dashboard specification for monitoring acquisition quality and commercial performance
- Plan A/B tests for messages, offers, landing pages and onboarding steps using hypotheses, control groups and success metrics
- Produce a 90-day banking customer acquisition playbook with channel actions, owners, milestones and governance controls
Benefits of attending
For you
- Gain a repeatable framework for defending acquisition budgets with conversion, activation and lifetime-value evidence
- Learn to identify where banking prospects drop out and translate funnel diagnosis into practical journey improvements
- Build credibility with product, risk and compliance colleagues by incorporating consent, disclosure and fair-treatment controls
- Develop a portfolio-ready acquisition playbook for a banking product, segment and channel mix
- Strengthen readiness for senior digital acquisition, retail marketing or growth-product responsibilities
For your organisation
- Improve acquisition spend allocation by comparing channels on funded, activated and retained customer value rather than leads alone
- Reduce avoidable application abandonment through clearer journey mapping, hand-offs and friction-removal priorities
- Lower conduct and privacy risk by embedding consent, disclosure, suppression and approval checkpoints into campaign design
- Create shared acquisition metrics for marketing, product, sales, analytics and customer-experience teams
- Establish a prioritised 90-day experiment backlog that enables controlled improvements to offers, messaging and onboarding
Target competencies
Who should attend
- Bank Marketing Managers — who must turn product growth targets into measurable, compliant acquisition campaigns
- Digital Acquisition Managers — who optimise paid media, web journeys and online application conversion
- Retail Banking Product Managers — who need stronger propositions and offers for accounts, cards, deposits or lending
- CRM and Lifecycle Marketing Managers — who manage prospect nurturing, consented communications and activation programmes
- Customer Experience Managers — who need to remove friction between marketing promises and account-opening journeys
- Branch and Contact Centre Sales Leaders — who need consistent lead hand-off, qualification and follow-up processes
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have working experience in banking, financial services marketing, product management, digital channels or customer analytics. They should understand basic campaign terms such as target segment, conversion rate, lead, channel and budget, and be comfortable interpreting tables or charts in Excel. Familiarity with their organisation’s account-opening, lending, card or deposit products will help participants apply the exercises directly. A laptop with spreadsheet software is strongly recommended for workshop files. Prior use of Salesforce, Google Analytics or Tableau is not required, and no advanced statistics, coding, media-buying or legal qualification is assumed.
Training methodology
The instructor uses a bank acquisition case running across the five days, covering a product launch, paid-media performance, online application abandonment and post-opening activation. Short taught modules establish the methods, then participants work in teams to inspect funnel data, define segments, map a journey, assess offer controls and prioritise experiments. Facilitated reviews simulate discussions with product, risk, compliance and sales stakeholders. Individual application planning on the final day converts the case methods into a 90-day acquisition plan for each participant’s own banking context.
