Course overview

Banking digital change initiatives must deliver new customer journeys, automation, data capabilities and regulatory controls without disrupting critical services or weakening operational resilience. Project managers working in banks face competing delivery pressures: fixed regulatory dates, legacy platforms, third-party dependencies, strict change controls, information-security requirements and stakeholders across product, technology, operations, risk and compliance. This course equips participants to manage those realities as an integrated delivery problem rather than treating scope, risk, governance and implementation as separate workstreams.

Participants learn how to frame a banking change initiative, build a practical delivery plan, define measurable outcomes and establish governance that supports timely decisions. The course covers hybrid project approaches combining predictive controls with Agile delivery, including work breakdown structures, dependency maps, RAID logs, milestone plans, backlog prioritisation, stakeholder maps, benefits-realisation plans and executive status reporting. Participants practise translating regulatory, operational-risk and customer requirements into project controls, managing vendor and technology dependencies, and planning releases, testing, migration and business readiness.

Instructor-led teaching is built around a simulated bank digital onboarding initiative involving a mobile-channel release, core-system integration and compliance approval. Through facilitated workshops, participants create project artefacts progressively across the week and receive structured feedback on clarity, control coverage and decision usefulness. Each participant leaves with a Banking Digital Change Project Pack: a charter, governance model, integrated plan, RAID register, stakeholder engagement plan, release-readiness checklist and benefits dashboard template that can be adapted for a live initiative.

The course is suited to foundation-to-intermediate project professionals, change leads and operational managers who need to deliver technology-enabled banking change with stronger control, transparency and implementation discipline.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Create a banking digital-change charter that defines business outcomes, scope boundaries, control obligations and success measures
  • Build an integrated milestone plan using a work breakdown structure, dependency map and critical-path analysis
  • Apply a hybrid Agile and predictive delivery model to govern product backlogs, stage gates and regulated approvals
  • Construct a banking RAID register that links delivery risks, operational risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies and owners
  • Develop a stakeholder map and engagement plan for business, technology, risk, compliance, operations and third-party teams
  • Produce a release-readiness checklist covering testing evidence, data migration, customer communications, training and rollback controls
  • Design an executive project dashboard using milestone status, risk exposure, decision requests, budget variance and benefits measures
  • Prepare a benefits-realisation plan that assigns ownership and tracks adoption, service performance, cost and customer outcomes

Benefits of attending

For you

  • Gain a repeatable method for turning banking digital-change requests into governed, measurable delivery plans
  • Build confidence presenting risk, dependency and decision information to senior banking stakeholders

Who should attend

  • Banking Project Managers — who need to control digital delivery across business, technology, risk and operations
  • Digital Transformation Managers — who coordinate mobile, workflow, data or channel-modernisation programmes
  • PMO Analysts and PMO Managers — who need banking-specific governance, reporting and assurance practices
  • Business Change Managers — who plan operational adoption, training and readiness for new banking processes
  • Technology Delivery Managers — who manage integration, testing, release and supplier dependencies in regulated environments
  • Operations, Risk and Compliance Managers — who contribute controls and approval requirements to change initiatives

Requirements and prerequisites

Participants should understand the basic purpose of a project plan, milestones, risks, stakeholders and status reporting. Experience contributing to a banking, financial-services, technology or operations-change initiative is helpful, but formal project-management certification is not required. Participants should be comfortable working with spreadsheets and reviewing simple schedules, RAID logs and dashboards. Familiarity with Agile terminology such as backlog, sprint and user story is useful but will be introduced where needed. No coding, systems-administration, financial-modelling or prior experience with Microsoft Project or Jira is required. Complete beginners should expect a structured introduction before progressing to applied banking scenarios.

Training methodology

The course combines focused instructor-led sessions with a five-day banking digital-change case study. Participants work in teams to plan a digital customer-onboarding release that involves product owners, technology teams, operations, compliance, information security and an external vendor. Workshops use Microsoft Project-style schedules, Jira backlog examples, RAID registers, approval gates and dashboard templates. Facilitated peer reviews test whether plans are usable by a steering committee and delivery team. The final session converts the case work into an individual application plan for a current or anticipated banking initiative.

Frequently asked questions

No formal banking project-management experience is required, although experience in banking, financial services, technology or operations will help participants relate the methods to their work. The course starts with core project controls before applying them to banking-specific scenarios.

A laptop is recommended for live online delivery and useful in classroom sessions if you want to adapt templates during exercises. The course uses examples from Microsoft Project and Jira, but participants do not need licences or advanced prior experience with either tool.

It is designed for project managers, transformation leads, PMO staff, business change managers and technology delivery professionals working on banking change. Risk, compliance and operations managers will also benefit where they are responsible for approvals, readiness or control input.

The course focuses on the delivery conditions that shape banking change: regulated approvals, operational resilience, production change control, customer impact, core-platform dependencies and third-party assurance. Exercises and templates are built around a banking digital-release scenario rather than a generic project case.

Participants can use the charter, integrated plan, RAID register, governance matrix, readiness checklist and dashboard structure on an active initiative. The final application plan identifies the first artefacts, stakeholders and governance conversations to use after the course.

You leave with a Banking Digital Change Project Pack containing completed case-study artefacts and editable templates. These include a project charter, dependency plan, RAID register, stakeholder plan, release-readiness checklist, executive dashboard and benefits-realisation plan.
