Course overview
Contracts frequently stall between drafting, approval, signature and storage because teams rely on email attachments, inconsistent signing orders and poorly controlled templates. Legal, procurement and sales operations professionals need to configure DocuSign workflows that move agreements quickly without weakening authority controls, auditability or electronic-signature compliance. This course addresses the practical challenge of translating internal contract policy into repeatable DocuSign processes for NDAs, supplier agreements, sales contracts, amendments and approval-led documents.
Participants work through DocuSign eSignature and DocuSign CLM capabilities used to prepare templates, create envelopes, set recipient roles, apply routing orders, configure conditional recipients, manage reminders and establish reusable fields. They learn to distinguish authentication, consent, intent, attribution and record-retention requirements under the ESIGN Act and eIDAS Regulation, while recognising where local law, regulated transactions or internal policy require legal review. The programme also covers access controls, audit trails, completed-document management, exception handling and workflow reporting.
Instructor-led demonstrations are followed by guided configuration labs using realistic contract scenarios. Participants build a documented contract workflow for a selected agreement type, including an intake route, approval matrix, DocuSign template, signing sequence, compliance control checklist and post-signature filing plan. They leave with a practical workflow pack that can be adapted for their department, plus a certificate on completion.
The course is designed for professionals who already work with contracts or approval processes and need to administer, improve or govern DocuSign-based execution. It suits both operational users responsible for day-to-day envelopes and managers accountable for contract controls, adoption and risk reduction.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Configure DocuSign envelope templates with reusable fields, recipient roles and document visibility settings
- Design contract routing sequences using signing order, conditional recipients, parallel approvals and delegated authority rules
- Apply ESIGN Act and eIDAS Regulation principles to consent, signer intent, authentication, attribution and record retention
- Build DocuSign CLM intake and approval workflows for a defined contract type
- Set recipient authentication and identity-verification options appropriate to contract risk levels
- Produce a contract workflow control matrix covering approvals, access, audit evidence, exceptions and retention
- Interpret DocuSign certificate-of-completion data and audit trail events for internal review
- Create a post-signature filing and reporting plan using completed documents, metadata and workflow status data
Benefits of attending
For you
- Gain the ability to convert a paper or email-based signing process into a documented DocuSign workflow
- Build credible evidence of electronic-signature compliance knowledge when working with legal and audit teams
- Create reusable templates and routing designs that reduce manual envelope preparation
- Develop practical judgement on when authentication, approvals or legal escalation are required
- Leave with a workflow pack that can support a DocuSign administrator, legal operations or contract management role
For your organisation
- Reduce contract turnaround delays caused by unclear routing, missing recipients and manual follow-up
- Strengthen evidence for executed agreements through consistent audit trails, certificates of completion and filing controls
- Lower unauthorised-signature risk by embedding approval matrices and signing authority checks into workflows
- Improve consistency across NDA, procurement and sales agreement processes through governed templates
- Give managers an actionable design for measuring bottlenecks, exceptions and adoption in the contract workflow
Target competencies
Who should attend
- Contract Managers — who need repeatable approval, signature and storage controls for commercial agreements
- Legal Operations Managers — who administer legal technology and standardise contract processes across business teams
- In-House Counsel — who advise on electronic-signature risk and need workflows that reflect legal policy
- Procurement Managers — who manage supplier agreements requiring controlled approvals and clear signing authority
- Sales Operations Managers — who support high-volume customer contracting without bypassing legal safeguards
- DocuSign Administrators — who configure users, templates and governance settings for business contract workflows
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should understand the basic lifecycle of a business contract: request, drafting, internal review, approval, signature and storage. Experience sending or receiving DocuSign envelopes is useful, and participants should be comfortable working in a web browser, completing online forms and reviewing standard contract terms. Familiarity with their organisation’s delegation of authority, retention policy and common agreement types will strengthen the exercises. This is not a legal drafting course and does not require coding, API development, prior DocuSign administration certification or detailed knowledge of every jurisdiction’s electronic-signature law.
Training methodology
The five-day programme combines instructor-led process walkthroughs with live DocuSign demonstrations and structured configuration labs. Participants map a real contract scenario, then build its template, recipient logic, approval path and evidence controls in stages. Case discussions examine failed signing sequences, disputed authority, missing consent and incomplete records. Small groups review each other’s control matrices against ESIGN and eIDAS principles. On the final day, each participant refines an implementation plan for one contract workflow, with instructor feedback on feasibility, controls and adoption steps.
Course outline
Day 1: Contract workflow foundations and DocuSign architecture
- Contract lifecycle mapping from intake through executed-record storage
- DocuSign eSignature accounts, users, permission profiles and account settings
- Envelope, template, document and recipient-role relationships
- Agreement classification by risk, value, jurisdiction and signing authority
- Reusable templates versus one-off envelopes for contract operations
- Document preparation, anchor tags, fields and required signer inputs
- Workflow control points for legal review, approvals and signature release
Workshop: Participants map an NDA or supplier agreement lifecycle and produce a current-state workflow map identifying delays, control gaps and proposed DocuSign touchpoints.
Day 2: Template design, routing and approval controls
- Creating reusable contract templates and shared template folders
- Recipient roles, routing order and parallel versus sequential actions
- Conditional recipients and rule-based routing decisions
- Approver, signer, receives-a-copy and certified-delivery recipient actions
- PowerForms and web forms for controlled agreement initiation
- Reminders, expirations, notifications and envelope correction procedures
- Delegation of authority matrices and signer-authority validation
Workshop: Participants configure a multi-party contract template with legal approval, finance approval, authorised signers, conditional routing and reminder settings.
Day 3: Electronic-signature compliance and defensible evidence
- ESIGN Act requirements for electronic records and signatures
- eIDAS Regulation signature types and cross-border considerations
- Consent, intent to sign, attribution and association of signature with records
- Signer authentication methods and risk-based selection criteria
- Certificate of completion, envelope history and audit-event interpretation
- Electronic record retention, document integrity and retrieval controls
- Transactions requiring legal review, wet signatures or jurisdiction-specific treatment
Workshop: Participants assess three contract-signing scenarios and produce a risk-based compliance checklist specifying signature method, authentication, evidence and escalation requirements.
Day 4: DocuSign CLM workflow design and contract governance
- DocuSign CLM intake forms and request-data capture
- Clause libraries, approved language and template governance
- CLM workflow stages, tasks, decisions and automated notifications
- Approval routing based on contract value, deviation and business unit
- Version control, redlining handoffs and negotiated-document management

Workshop: Participants design a CLM intake-to-signature workflow for a procurement or sales agreement and produce its approval matrix, metadata model and exception route.
Day 5: Monitoring, exceptions and implementation planning
- Completed-envelope management and executed-contract filing procedures
- Monitoring envelope status, stalled transactions and failed delivery
- Exception handling for signer changes, declined envelopes and expired requests
