Course overview
Environmental teams often manage permits, inspections, emissions data, waste records and regulatory changes across spreadsheets, shared drives and local site systems. This makes it difficult to demonstrate compliance status, assign corrective actions, maintain an auditable record and give leaders a reliable view of environmental risk. This course addresses that operational gap by teaching participants how to use Enablon Environmental Compliance capabilities to structure environmental obligations, collect evidence, manage site activities and report performance consistently.
Participants learn to configure and use core Enablon workflows for environmental compliance management. They work with legal registers and compliance obligations, site and organisational hierarchies, permit requirements, environmental inspections, action plans, document records, data-collection forms and dashboards. The course also covers practical methods for assigning accountable owners, setting due dates and recurring tasks, maintaining evidence trails, monitoring completion and escalating overdue or high-risk compliance items.
Instructor-led demonstrations are followed by guided exercises in an Enablon training environment. Participants work through a realistic multi-site environmental compliance case, entering obligations, linking them to permits and operational controls, recording an inspection finding, creating corrective actions and producing management reporting. Each participant leaves with an Enablon environmental compliance configuration workbook and a site-level implementation plan that can be adapted for their own organisation.
The course is designed for intermediate HSE, environmental and compliance professionals who already understand their organisation’s environmental responsibilities and need to operate, improve or support an Enablon-based compliance process. It is equally useful for system administrators and programme managers responsible for making environmental data usable for site teams, auditors and senior management.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Configure Enablon organisational and site hierarchies for environmental compliance reporting
- Build a legal register by recording regulatory obligations, applicability criteria and accountable owners
- Create permit and licence records with conditions, renewal dates, monitoring requirements and supporting evidence
- Design recurring environmental compliance tasks, inspections and notification workflows
- Record inspection findings and convert non-compliance issues into tracked corrective action plans
- Use Enablon forms and data-collection campaigns to capture auditable environmental performance data
- Produce compliance dashboards and management reports that identify overdue obligations and risk trends
- Develop an Enablon implementation workbook mapping obligations, workflows, roles and reporting requirements
Benefits of attending
For you
- Gain practical confidence using Enablon to manage environmental obligations rather than relying on disconnected spreadsheets
- Build evidence-based compliance records that can withstand internal audit, regulator review and management challenge
- Learn to translate permit conditions and legal requirements into assigned, measurable system tasks
- Strengthen eligibility for environmental systems, HSE digitalisation and compliance programme roles
- Leave with a reusable implementation workbook for proposing Enablon process improvements at work
For your organisation
- Creates more consistent site-level records for permits, obligations, inspections and corrective actions
- Reduces the risk of missed renewal dates, unassigned duties and overdue environmental compliance tasks
- Improves audit readiness through traceable links between requirements, evidence, findings and closure actions
- Gives environmental leaders clearer dashboards for identifying high-risk sites and recurring compliance failures
- Supports faster adoption of standard Enablon workflows across multiple facilities or business units
Target competencies
Who should attend
- Environmental Managers — who need a controlled system for permits, obligations, inspections and performance reporting
- HSE Managers — who oversee environmental compliance alongside wider safety and sustainability responsibilities
- Environmental Compliance Officers — who maintain legal registers, evidence records and corrective action follow-up
- Enablon Administrators — who configure forms, workflows, user roles and reporting structures for HSE teams
- Site HSE Coordinators — who complete local inspections, monitoring tasks and compliance evidence collection
- Internal Auditors — who need to test the completeness, traceability and closure of environmental compliance records
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should understand basic environmental management concepts, including permits, regulatory obligations, inspections, corrective actions, waste or emissions records, and document retention. Experience working in an HSE, environmental compliance or site operations role is expected. Familiarity with web-based business systems, Excel-style data tables and basic reporting is helpful. Prior Enablon use is beneficial but not essential; the course introduces the relevant navigation, record structures and workflows from an intermediate operational perspective. Participants do not need programming, database administration, API, system-integration or advanced sustainability-reporting experience.
Training methodology
The five-day course combines instructor-led Enablon demonstrations with guided configuration and record-management exercises in a training environment. Participants use a multi-site industrial case to create environmental obligations, attach permit evidence, assign recurring compliance activities, conduct an inspection and manage corrective actions. Short group workshops examine ownership models, escalation rules and reporting requirements for different site types. Each day closes with a practical output, culminating in an individual implementation plan that identifies the Enablon records, workflows, roles and reports needed in the participant’s workplace.
