Course overview

Sustainability teams often collect environmental, social and governance data through spreadsheets, email requests and locally defined calculations before trying to reconcile it for assurance, management review or disclosure. This creates duplicate records, unclear ownership, weak evidence trails and late reporting cycles. Enablon ESG software provides a controlled environment for gathering operational data, applying calculation rules, monitoring completion and preparing disclosure-ready outputs. This course equips participants to use that environment with a clear understanding of the data governance decisions behind it.

Participants learn how to structure ESG reporting requirements in Enablon, define indicators and reporting boundaries, assign data owners, configure collection campaigns and manage validation workflows. The course covers source-data mapping, unit conversions, calculation logic, audit evidence, workflow statuses, dashboards and reporting extracts. Participants also work with common reporting contexts, including GHG Protocol emissions inventories and ESRS-aligned disclosure data, so they can translate external reporting requirements into usable Enablon data-management processes.

Delivery combines instructor demonstrations with guided work in an Enablon training environment, spreadsheet-based data preparation and realistic reporting scenarios. Participants investigate missing and anomalous submissions, configure controls, review evidence and produce management-ready reporting views. Each attendee leaves with an ESG data-management blueprint: a practical design pack containing an indicator register, ownership matrix, collection workflow, validation rules and reporting-output specification that can be adapted for their organisation.

Requirements and prerequisites

This is a foundation-to-intermediate course. Participants should be comfortable working with structured spreadsheets, including columns, filters, basic formulas and data checks, and should understand their organisation’s broad ESG or environmental reporting responsibilities. Familiarity with terms such as Scope 1, Scope 2, reporting boundary, KPI, data owner and audit evidence is helpful but not essential. Prior Enablon experience is not required. A complete beginner should expect to learn the operating logic of an Enablon ESG reporting process before working through configuration and analysis exercises. No programming, database administration or prior assurance qualification is required.

Training methodology

The course uses short instructor-led explanations followed by guided configuration and analysis tasks in an Enablon training environment. Participants work from a realistic multi-site sustainability reporting scenario, progressing from indicator design and data collection through validation, evidence review and reporting outputs. Exercises use sample utility, fuel, waste and workforce data, including incomplete submissions and implausible values that require investigation. Small-group workshops compare governance choices and control designs. On day five, each participant consolidates their work into an organisation-specific application plan and ESG data-management blueprint.

Day 1: ESG data architecture and Enablon foundations

Day 2: Data collection campaigns and workflow control
