Course overview
Chiefs of Staff operate where executive intent, organisational priorities and delivery realities meet. The role demands more than managing diaries and meetings: it requires turning ambiguous direction into decisions, governance, coordinated action and reliable follow-through. This course addresses the practical challenge of supporting a senior executive without becoming a bottleneck, creating visibility across competing initiatives, and handling sensitive stakeholder relationships with sound judgement.
Participants learn an executive management operating model for the Chief of Staff role. They practise converting strategic priorities into a portfolio of initiatives, designing decision rights and meeting cadences, preparing decision-quality briefings, managing executive communications, and escalating risks before they become crises. The course covers stakeholder mapping, RACI matrices, executive dashboards, issue logs, decision registers, prioritisation methods and structured delegation.
Delivery combines instructor-led teaching with realistic executive-office casework, including a simulated leadership team meeting, a high-stakes board briefing and a cross-functional delivery scenario. Participants build an Executive Office Operating Pack containing a priority portfolio, stakeholder map, governance calendar, decision log, escalation protocol and 90-day implementation plan. This gives attendees a practical set of templates and a tailored operating model they can introduce with their executive sponsor.
The programme is designed for experienced Chiefs of Staff, senior executive assistants moving into strategic roles, business managers and leadership-office professionals supporting C-suite leaders, business-unit heads or public-sector executives. It is particularly valuable where the executive agenda spans transformation, growth, operational improvement or complex stakeholder environments.

- Senior Executive Assistants — who are expanding from executive support into strategic coordination
- Business Managers — who manage the office, agenda and cross-functional commitments of a senior executive

- Programme Directors — who need to improve decision flow and executive engagement across major initiatives
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have at least two years of experience supporting a senior leader, leading cross-functional work, managing a programme, or coordinating executive-level activity. They should be comfortable reading business plans, interpreting basic performance measures, preparing meeting materials and using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity with organisational structures, project status reporting and confidential information handling is assumed. Participants should bring a current executive priority, initiative or operating challenge to use in exercises. No formal management qualification, finance specialism, prior Chief of Staff title or advanced Power BI experience is required.
Training methodology
The instructor uses short executive-management briefings followed by applied workshops built around a realistic CEO office scenario and participants’ own work context. Teams diagnose competing priorities, construct governance mechanisms, prepare a decision paper and run a simulated leadership meeting. Facilitated peer review tests the clarity, political feasibility and operational usefulness of each output. Individual coaching points help participants adapt the methods to their executive’s style, organisational culture and decision cadence. The final session converts course outputs into a sequenced 90-day implementation plan.
