Course overview

Healthcare marketing teams are expected to increase acquisition, appointment completion, service-line growth and patient loyalty while protecting sensitive information and avoiding messages that feel irrelevant or intrusive. Generic campaign planning is not enough when patient journeys span search, referrals, call centres, portals, clinics and follow-up care. This course addresses the practical challenge of designing patient engagement programmes that use consented data responsibly, coordinate channels, distinguish clinical from marketing communications and measure meaningful movement from awareness to attendance and retention.

Participants learn to map patient decision journeys for priority services, define actionable audience segments, build value propositions for patients and caregivers, and create triggered communications across email, SMS, paid media, web and patient portal channels. The programme covers consent and preference management, HIPAA-aware campaign governance, CRM and customer-data structures, content testing, appointment conversion, no-show reduction and lifecycle measurement. Participants also practise using Salesforce Health Cloud concepts, Adobe Journey Optimizer workflows, GA4 reporting and HL7 FHIR-informed data exchanges to connect marketing activity with operational outcomes.

Teaching combines instructor-led analysis, healthcare case studies, campaign-build workshops and peer review of real-world scenarios such as elective procedures, chronic-care programmes and preventive screening. Each participant develops a patient engagement campaign blueprint for a selected service line: a journey map, segment definitions, consent rules, channel plan, message matrix, automation logic, KPI dashboard specification and 90-day implementation plan. The deliverable gives both the attendee and their manager a structured basis for prioritising technology, content and operational changes after the course.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Map a service-line patient journey using decision stages, barriers, moments of truth and channel touchpoints
  • Build consented patient segments using CRM attributes, behavioural signals, care context and exclusion rules
  • Design an omnichannel engagement workflow with email, SMS, web, portal and call-centre hand-offs
  • Apply HIPAA-aware governance rules to campaign data, consent capture, suppression lists and approval workflows
  • Create patient and caregiver message matrices that connect needs, value propositions, content and calls to action
  • Configure a campaign measurement framework linking reach, conversion, appointment attendance, retention and cost metrics
  • Run A/B test plans for healthcare messages, landing pages and appointment prompts using valid success criteria
  • Produce a 90-day patient engagement campaign blueprint for a priority healthcare service line

Who should attend

  • Healthcare Marketing Managers — who need to improve service-line demand and patient conversion without compromising trust
  • Patient Engagement Managers — who design communications across the care journey and need measurable engagement models
  • CRM and Marketing Automation Specialists — who build audiences, workflows and reporting from healthcare data
  • Digital Health and Patient Experience Leaders — who must connect digital journeys with operational and clinical touchpoints
  • Service-Line Directors — who need marketing plans that translate patient demand into appointments and programme uptake
  • Communications and Content Leads — who create patient-facing content and need stronger segmentation, governance and testing discipline

Requirements and prerequisites

Participants should have practical experience in marketing, patient communications, digital engagement, CRM operations or service-line promotion. They should understand basic campaign concepts such as target audiences, conversion, email or SMS messaging, web forms and performance metrics. Familiarity with a CRM, marketing automation platform or web analytics dashboard is useful; Salesforce Health Cloud, Adobe Journey Optimizer and GA4 experience is not required. This is not a clinical training course, and no coding, statistical modelling or HL7 implementation experience is needed. Participants should bring a current or proposed patient engagement challenge to use in workshops.

Training methodology

The five-day programme uses short instructor-led briefings followed by healthcare-specific application. Participants analyse anonymised patient journeys, diagnose underperforming campaigns, create segments and workflows in structured templates, and review examples from screening, elective care and chronic-condition engagement. Small groups test message and channel decisions against consent, operational capacity and patient-experience constraints. The final day is an application workshop in which participants assemble and present a service-line campaign blueprint, receive facilitator feedback, and convert it into a 90-day action plan for their organisation.

Frequently asked questions

You should be comfortable with basic marketing concepts such as audiences, campaign channels, conversion and reporting. Experience with patient communications, CRM or digital marketing is helpful, but you do not need prior Salesforce Health Cloud, Adobe Journey Optimizer or GA4 configuration experience.

Bring a laptop for workshop templates, journey maps and campaign-planning exercises. Live production-system access is not required; tool demonstrations and exercises use structured examples rather than your organisation's patient data.

It is designed for experienced healthcare marketing, patient engagement, CRM, digital experience and service-line professionals. It is also useful for leaders who oversee patient demand generation and need stronger governance around consented, coordinated communications.

The course focuses on the point where healthcare marketing, patient access, data governance and care journeys meet. Rather than teaching broad consumer marketing tactics or clinical experience design, it develops service-line engagement campaigns with consent rules, operational hand-offs and appointment-related measures.

Yes. Salesforce Health Cloud, Adobe Journey Optimizer and GA4 are used to illustrate practical data, orchestration and measurement patterns, not as mandatory platforms. The resulting blueprint specifies transferable requirements for any CRM, marketing automation or analytics environment.

You will leave with a patient engagement campaign blueprint for a selected service line. It includes a journey map, segments, consent conditions, message matrix, workflow logic, KPI specification and 90-day implementation plan that can be taken into stakeholder review.
