Course overview
Projects often slow down not because teams lack effort, but because work enters the system faster than it can be completed. Hidden queues, overloaded specialists, unclear priorities, blocked approvals and constant task switching make delivery dates unreliable. This course addresses those flow problems using the Kanban Method: a practical approach for visualising work, limiting work in progress, managing bottlenecks and improving delivery without imposing a disruptive project lifecycle change.
Participants learn to design and operate Kanban systems for project, product, service and operational work. They will map demand from request to delivery; create workflow states and explicit policies; set meaningful work-in-progress limits; classify work using classes of service; and use pull-based replenishment. The course develops practical fluency in flow metrics including lead time, cycle time, throughput, work item age, cumulative flow diagrams and service level expectations. Participants also learn how to run replenishment, delivery planning, daily Kanban and service delivery review meetings.
Instruction combines facilitated teaching, worked examples, board-design workshops and a multi-stage project-flow simulation. Participants apply the method to a realistic portfolio of competing requests, then build a Kanban implementation pack for their own environment. The pack includes a workflow design, board structure, work item policies, WIP limits, metric definitions, meeting cadence and a 30-day adoption plan. Managers gain a clearer basis for funding: a trained practitioner able to expose capacity constraints, improve forecast quality and reduce the cost of delayed work.
The course is best suited to experienced project and operations professionals working where priorities change, multiple teams share resources, or delivery performance depends on managing a continuous flow of requests rather than following a fixed sequential plan.

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have practical experience contributing to, coordinating or managing project or operational work, including familiarity with tasks, dependencies, priorities, delivery dates and basic status reporting. They should be comfortable discussing their team’s current workflow and bringing a real example of work that moves through several stages or functions. Familiarity with Agile concepts such as backlogs, iterations or user stories is helpful but not essential. No prior Kanban certification, Lean qualification, statistical training or specialist software expertise is required. A laptop is useful for the digital-board exercises but not mandatory for classroom attendance.
Training methodology
The five-day programme uses short instructor-led explanations followed by board-design labs, data interpretation exercises and facilitated group decisions. Participants work with physical or digital Kanban boards to model a project workflow, write explicit policies, set WIP limits and respond to simulated demand changes and blocked work. Case material includes cross-functional delivery, approval queues and competing urgent requests. Each day closes with a practical artefact, and the final day converts these artefacts into an implementation plan for the participant’s own project or service environment.

Day 1: Kanban foundations and workflow visibility

Day 2: Pull systems, priorities and work limits

Workshop: Participants set WIP limits and replenishment rules for a constrained delivery system, then test the decisions against a demand scenario.
Day 3: Measuring flow and forecasting delivery
