Course overview

Product managers are often accountable for adoption, revenue and retention without owning the marketing function or having a repeatable go-to-market process. They must turn product strategy into a launch story that sales can sell, customers can understand and internal teams can execute. This course addresses the practical gap between building the right product and bringing it to market with clear positioning, defined audiences, evidence-based messaging, launch readiness and measurable commercial results.

Participants learn how to segment markets, select target customer profiles, define jobs to be done and translate product capabilities into differentiated value propositions. The course covers positioning frameworks, category design, messaging hierarchies, pricing and packaging inputs, buyer-journey mapping, sales enablement, channel planning and launch measurement. Participants practise using customer evidence, competitive analysis and funnel data to make go-to-market decisions that can be defended to product, sales, marketing and executive stakeholders.

Teaching combines instructor-led models with product launch cases, working sessions and peer review. Participants develop a go-to-market plan for a real product, feature or simulated launch, including an ideal customer profile, positioning statement, message map, launch timeline, enablement assets, channel plan and KPI scorecard. They leave with a structured, stakeholder-ready GTM pack that can be adapted for their next roadmap release, market entry or product repositioning.

The course is designed for product managers working with B2B, B2C or platform products who need stronger commercial marketing capability. It is equally valuable for product leads preparing for larger launch ownership and for organisations seeking better coordination across product, product marketing, sales and customer success.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define an ideal customer profile using segmentation, firmographic, behavioural and jobs-to-be-done evidence
  • Create a positioning statement that distinguishes a product from named competitive alternatives
  • Build a message map linking product capabilities, customer outcomes, proof points and audience objections
  • Map a buyer journey and identify the content, channel and sales-support requirements at each stage
  • Design a go-to-market plan with launch phases, owners, dependencies, milestones and decision gates
  • Develop pricing and packaging hypotheses using willingness-to-pay, value metric and competitor inputs
  • Produce sales enablement assets including a battlecard, discovery questions and objection-handling guidance
  • Construct a launch KPI scorecard covering awareness, activation, pipeline, conversion, adoption and retention

Who should attend

  • Product Managers — who need to convert product strategy and roadmap releases into market adoption
  • Senior Product Managers — who lead cross-functional launches and must align commercial stakeholders
  • Associate Product Managers — who need a practical foundation in positioning, messaging and launch planning
  • Product Owners — who work with marketing and sales teams to prepare customer-facing releases
  • Product Marketing Managers — who need a shared operating language and planning process with product teams
  • Growth Product Managers — who use acquisition, activation and retention data to improve go-to-market decisions

Requirements and prerequisites

Participants should understand the basic product management lifecycle, including problem discovery, roadmap planning, user stories and release planning. Experience working with a product, feature, customer segment or commercial launch is helpful, but not essential. Familiarity with common metrics such as conversion rate, activation, retention and revenue will support the data exercises. Bring a laptop with spreadsheet software and, where possible, a current product brief, customer research summary or launch challenge. No prior marketing qualification, design software expertise, CRM administration experience or advanced analytics capability is required. Complete beginners should expect to learn core marketing terminology before applying it in practical workshops.

Training methodology

The instructor introduces each framework through short, applied teaching blocks, then participants use it on a product launch scenario or their own product context. Exercises include segment scoring, competitive positioning analysis, message-map drafting, buyer-journey workshops and launch KPI design. Small groups review one another's plans from the perspective of sales, marketing and customer success stakeholders. A running case connects the five days, and the final session is an application clinic in which participants refine their GTM pack, identify implementation risks and prepare a 30-day action plan.

Frequently asked questions

No formal marketing background is required. The course introduces the essential concepts of segmentation, positioning, messaging, channels and funnel metrics before applying them to product launch work.

Bring a laptop with spreadsheet software and, if available, a product brief, customer research or an upcoming launch challenge. Exercises use templates that can be completed in spreadsheets and documents; no design, CRM administration or analytics certification is needed.

Yes. The methods work particularly well for complex B2B, SaaS, platform and technical products where multiple buyers, long sales cycles and implementation risk affect adoption. Examples and exercises address both self-service and sales-led routes to market.

This course focuses on the decisions product managers must make with marketing and sales: who to target, how to position the product, what enablement is needed and how to measure launch performance. It does not focus on broad brand management, creative production or backlog delivery mechanics.

Participants can use the segment scorecard, positioning template, message map, launch workback plan and KPI scorecard on their next release. The final action plan identifies the stakeholders, evidence gaps and decisions needed within the first 30 days.

Each participant leaves with a practical GTM pack for a real or simulated product launch. It includes an ideal customer profile, positioning statement, message map, channel and launch plan, sales battlecard, KPI scorecard and implementation actions.
