Course overview
Microsoft Copilot can reduce the time spent drafting emails, analysing spreadsheets, preparing presentations and finding information across Microsoft 365—but only when users can give it precise instructions, validate its output and apply it within company data-handling rules. This five-day course helps business professionals move beyond one-off prompts to reliable, repeatable Copilot-assisted workflows. Participants learn where Copilot adds value, where human judgement remains essential, and how to avoid unsupported claims, confidential-data exposure and misleading spreadsheet analysis.
The course covers Microsoft 365 Copilot capabilities in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, alongside Copilot Chat for research, summarisation and document-grounded work. Participants practise prompt structures for drafting, rewriting, comparing, extracting and analysing information; use iterative prompting to improve outputs; create presentation narratives from source material; and turn meeting content into accountable actions. They also learn practical quality-assurance methods, including fact checking, source review, calculation verification and appropriate disclosure of AI-assisted work.
Delivery combines instructor demonstrations with guided work in realistic business scenarios: a management briefing, sales account review, project status meeting, policy update and operational data analysis. Each participant builds a personal Copilot Workflow Portfolio containing tested prompts, output-review checklists, role-specific use cases and a 30-day workplace adoption plan. This gives both the participant and their manager a concrete basis for applying the learning after the course.
The course suits experienced Microsoft 365 users who need to use Copilot productively and responsibly in day-to-day knowledge work, rather than technical teams building custom AI applications.

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should be confident using Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, and should regularly create documents, analyse simple tables or coordinate business communications. Familiarity with common workplace concepts such as file permissions, confidential information, version control and basic spreadsheet formulas is assumed. Participants need access to a laptop with a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence or a suitable organisational training tenant for hands-on work. Programming, data science, machine learning theory and Copilot Studio development experience are not required. The course teaches business use of Copilot, not custom agent development or tenant administration.
Training methodology
The instructor uses short demonstrations to show how Copilot behaves across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and Copilot Chat, followed by guided individual practice using realistic business files. Participants compare weak and well-structured prompts, inspect outputs against source material, and work in small groups on departmental scenarios. Daily exercises produce reusable prompts and reviewed outputs. On the final day, participants assemble their Copilot Workflow Portfolio and receive peer and instructor feedback on a practical 30-day implementation plan.

- Output validation for factuality, relevance, tone and completeness
Workshop: Participants transform a vague business request into three tested prompt templates and document the output-review steps for each.
Day 2: Business writing and communication workflows
- Word Copilot for document drafting from approved source files
- Rewriting for audience, tone, length and reading level
- Creating executive summaries, policy digests and decision papers
- Comparing document versions and extracting material changes
- Outlook Copilot for email drafting, thread summarisation and follow-up
- Creating response options for difficult stakeholder communications
- Human editing controls for claims, terminology and organisational voice
Workshop: Participants create an executive briefing and stakeholder email pack from a policy document, applying a documented accuracy and tone review.
Day 3: Data analysis and decision support with Excel

- Generating and checking formulas, calculations and derived measures
- Creating charts and interpreting Copilot-generated observations

Workshop: Participants analyse an operational performance workbook and produce a validated insight summary with checked calculations, charts and management questions.
Day 4: Presentations, meetings and collaborative work

Day 5: Governed adoption and role-based implementation

- Assessing task suitability using value, risk and verification criteria
- Creating reusable prompt libraries and usage guidance
- Applying confidentiality, copyright and sensitive-data safeguards
- Measuring time saved, quality improvements and adoption indicators
- Escalating errors, inappropriate outputs and access concerns
- Developing a 30-day individual Copilot adoption plan
Workshop: Participants complete and present a Copilot Workflow Portfolio containing three role-based use cases, prompt templates, validation checklists and a 30-day action plan.
