Course overview

Mining operations face a distinctive safety challenge: high-energy hazards, mobile plant interactions, ground instability, blasting, confined spaces, dust exposure and remote work can combine with shift pressure to weaken controls. Supervisors, HSE practitioners and operational leaders must do more than record incidents and conduct inspections. They need to identify critical controls, verify that controls work in the field, prepare credible emergency arrangements and lead investigations that prevent recurrence. This course equips participants to manage those responsibilities across surface and underground mining environments.

Participants learn to build a mining-specific safety management system aligned with ISO 45001 principles, conduct task and operational risk assessments, develop bowtie analyses, and apply critical control management to major hazards. The programme addresses hazard identification, risk registers, contractor control, fitness for work, occupational hygiene, incident classification, root-cause investigation and corrective-action tracking. Emergency response modules cover incident command, mine evacuation, communications, rescue coordination, medical response interfaces and post-event recovery planning.
