Course overview

Odoo administrators are often expected to turn operational requirements into working ERP processes without disrupting live users, corrupting master data, or creating configuration that cannot be maintained. This course addresses the practical work behind that responsibility: setting up companies, users, roles, accounting structures, products, sales flows, purchasing rules, inventory operations and reporting. Participants learn how to translate a department’s process requirements into controlled Odoo configuration decisions, and how to recognise when a request requires configuration, Odoo Studio, a third-party app or custom development.

Across five instructor-led days, participants configure a working Odoo environment using core applications including Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Accounting and CRM. They build multi-company settings, user access groups, product and vendor records, price lists, approval rules, warehouses, replenishment routes, taxes, journals, payment terms and automated activities. The course also covers data import preparation, configuration testing, audit-friendly access control, dashboard reporting, troubleshooting and change-control practices for production environments.

Teaching combines concise demonstrations with guided configuration labs based on a realistic distribution business case. Each participant works in an Odoo training database and progressively configures an integrated operational model. They leave with a documented configuration workbook containing process maps, security-role definitions, master-data templates, key settings, test scenarios and a prioritised implementation action plan that can be adapted for their own organisation.

The course is suited to professionals responsible for administering, implementing or supporting Odoo in an operational setting. It is particularly valuable for teams moving from spreadsheets or disconnected business applications into a configured Odoo environment, and for organisations that need stronger internal ownership before engaging implementation partners or developers.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Configure company, currency, fiscal position and multi-company settings for an Odoo environment
  • Create user roles, access groups and record rules using Odoo security controls
  • Build product, customer and vendor master data structures with import-ready templates
  • Configure quotation-to-order, purchase-to-receipt and inventory fulfilment workflows
  • Set up warehouses, locations, routes, reorder rules and replenishment methods
  • Configure taxes, journals, payment terms, invoicing policies and basic accounting controls
  • Design operational dashboards, pivot reports, filters and scheduled activities for process monitoring
  • Produce a configuration test script and change-control plan for releasing Odoo settings safely

Benefits of attending

For you

  • Gain evidence-based confidence to administer Odoo settings without relying on trial-and-error changes in production
  • Build a reusable method for converting departmental process requirements into Odoo configuration tasks
  • Develop practical credibility when working with implementation partners, developers and functional process owners
  • Create portfolio-ready examples of role design, workflow configuration, master-data templates and test scripts
  • Qualify for broader ERP administrator, business systems analyst and Odoo functional consultant responsibilities

For your organisation

  • Reduce dependence on external consultants for routine user, workflow, master-data and reporting configuration
  • Improve process consistency by aligning sales, purchasing, inventory and invoicing settings across departments
  • Lower access-control risk through clearer user groups, permissions and record-rule design
  • Decrease configuration-related disruption by introducing documented testing and change-control practices

Who should attend

  • Odoo Administrators — who maintain users, settings, master data and day-to-day application controls
  • ERP Implementation Coordinators — who translate business requirements into configured Odoo processes
  • Business Systems Analysts — who document workflows and test ERP configuration with operational teams
  • Operations Managers — who need to standardise sales, purchasing, warehouse and fulfilment processes in Odoo
  • Finance Systems Users — who configure invoicing, taxes, journals and approval controls alongside finance teams
  • IT Support Specialists — who provide first-line support, access administration and configuration troubleshooting for Odoo users

Requirements and prerequisites

Participants should be comfortable using browser-based business applications and working with structured business data such as customer lists, product catalogues, supplier records and spreadsheets. Familiarity with the basic flow of sales orders, purchase orders, stock receipts and invoices is helpful, particularly for those configuring operational modules. No prior Odoo experience, programming knowledge, PostgreSQL administration or Python development is required. This is a foundation-to-intermediate course: complete beginners should expect to spend time learning Odoo terminology, navigation and app relationships before progressing to integrated configuration and testing exercises.

Training methodology

The programme uses an instructor-led Odoo training database rather than slide-only teaching. Each topic begins with a short demonstration of the relevant Odoo menu, model and configuration dependency, followed by guided individual setup tasks. Participants work through a distribution-company case covering leads, quotations, purchasing, warehouse replenishment, delivery and invoicing. Small-group reviews compare alternative configuration choices and their control implications. On day five, participants validate their own configured scenario against test scripts and create an implementation action plan for their workplace.

  • User accounts, internal users, portal users and invitation controls
  • Access rights, security groups and record-rule principles
  • System parameters, activity logging and safe configuration governance

Workshop: Participants configure a two-company training environment and produce a role-access matrix for sales, purchasing, warehouse and finance users.

Day 2: Master data and commercial process configuration

  • Customer, contact and vendor master-data design

Frequently asked questions

No. The course starts with Odoo navigation, app relationships, company settings and user administration before moving into integrated configuration. Familiarity with common business documents such as quotations, purchase orders, delivery notes and invoices will help participants progress faster.

For live online delivery, participants need a laptop or desktop computer with a current web browser and reliable internet connection. A browser-based Odoo training environment is provided, so no local Odoo, PostgreSQL or development installation is required.

It is designed for administrators, implementation coordinators, business analysts, operational managers and IT support staff who need to configure or govern Odoo. It is not a developer course focused on Python modules, custom APIs or database engineering.

End-user training concentrates on completing transactions in one application, while this course focuses on the settings that control how those transactions behave across applications. Development training teaches code-based extension; this course helps participants identify what can be achieved through standard configuration, Odoo Studio and controlled process design.

Participants use practical methods for mapping a requirement to an Odoo setting, identifying affected teams and testing the resulting workflow before release. The role matrix, master-data templates, test scripts and change-control approach can be adapted directly to an existing or planned Odoo implementation.

You leave with a completed Odoo training configuration for the case organisation and a structured configuration workbook. It includes process decisions, access-role definitions, data templates, test scenarios, reporting requirements and prioritised next steps for workplace application.
