Course overview
Oracle eAM work management succeeds or fails on the quality of the maintenance transaction trail: requests must be screened, work orders must carry the right operations, labour, materials and charges, and completed work must provide usable history for planners, supervisors and reliability teams. When these controls are inconsistent, organisations experience overdue preventive maintenance, inaccurate backlog reporting, unplanned material issues, weak cost visibility and poor confidence in asset history. This course addresses the practical configuration and execution decisions that turn Oracle eAM into a controlled maintenance work-management system.
Participants learn to process the full Oracle eAM work lifecycle, from work request creation and approval through work order planning, release, scheduling, material issue, execution, completion and close. The course covers asset and asset-group context, maintenance activities, departments and resources, operation sequencing, material and direct-item requirements, work order statuses, preventive maintenance schedules, purchasing integration, quality collection plans and maintenance cost review. Participants gain the ability to create consistent work packages, manage exceptions, interpret work order data and maintain an auditable record of maintenance activity.
Delivery combines instructor-led demonstrations in Oracle eAM with guided system exercises based on a plant-maintenance scenario. Participants work through realistic corrective and preventive maintenance cases, including a failed rotating asset, planned shutdown work and externally sourced repair services. They leave with a completed Oracle eAM work-management playbook containing process maps, work order status rules, planning checklists, sample work order structures, KPI definitions and an implementation action plan for their own operating environment.
The course is designed for experienced maintenance, engineering and operations professionals who already work with maintenance processes or Oracle E-Business Suite and need stronger control over planning, execution and work-history data.

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should understand core maintenance concepts including corrective versus preventive maintenance, work requests, work orders, labour scheduling, spare parts and work completion. Previous exposure to Oracle E-Business Suite navigation is strongly recommended, particularly searching records, using responsibilities and entering transactions; familiarity with Oracle eAM, Oracle Inventory or Oracle Purchasing is helpful but not mandatory. Attendees should be comfortable reading a maintenance job plan and discussing their organisation’s approval and planning process. Programming, SQL, Oracle database administration and prior system-configuration experience are not required. This is not a beginner introduction to maintenance management.
Training methodology
The course uses short instructor-led explanations followed by guided Oracle eAM transactions in a training environment. Participants configure and process work management records against a realistic manufacturing-site case, moving from a reported equipment failure to a completed and costed work order. Small-group workshops compare approval rules, planning standards and backlog measures across operating contexts. Daily exercises build sections of an individual work-management playbook, and the final session converts this into a prioritised application plan with actions, owners and measures for the participant’s workplace.

Day 1: Oracle eAM work management foundations
- Oracle eAM navigation, responsibilities and work-management transaction flow
- Asset groups, asset numbers and asset hierarchy context for maintenance work
- Work request creation, request types and request approval decisions
- Work order types for corrective, preventive, rebuild and capital work
- Work order header fields, priorities, dates and asset associations
- Work order status lifecycle from draft through release, completion and close
- Maintenance departments, employee assignments and work ownership controls
Workshop: Participants map their current maintenance demand process and create, approve and convert a fault report into an Oracle eAM corrective work order.
Day 2: Planning executable work orders
- Operation definition, sequencing and standard operation descriptions
- Department resources, resource instances and capacity assumptions
- Labour requirements, planned durations and scheduled start and completion dates
- Maintenance activities and reusable work order planning structures
- Work order priority rules and planning versus execution date management

Workshop: Participants build a multi-operation pump overhaul work order with sequenced tasks, assigned departments, labour estimates and controlled release criteria.
Day 3: Materials, services and maintenance costs

- Direct-item requirements for non-stock materials and external services

Workshop: Participants plan and transact the spares and external repair service for an equipment repair, then review the resulting work order cost detail.
Day 4: Preventive maintenance and execution control
