Course overview
Retail replenishment failures show up quickly: empty shelves on high-velocity lines, excess stock in slow stores, costly emergency transfers, ageing inventory and frustrated customers who switch channels or competitors. These problems are rarely solved by simply increasing safety stock. Replenishment managers need to translate demand signals, lead times, minimum order quantities, supplier constraints, store capacity and service targets into disciplined ordering decisions across distribution centres, stores and e-commerce fulfilment nodes.
This five-day course equips participants to design, operate and improve a retail replenishment process. Participants calculate demand forecasts, safety stock, reorder points and order-up-to levels; distinguish push, pull and allocation models; set service-level policies by SKU and location; and manage exceptions such as demand spikes, stockouts, late inbound deliveries and excess inventory. The course also examines retail-specific planning challenges, including seasonal ranges, promotions, new-product introductions, size-and-colour variants, omnichannel fulfilment and inter-store inventory balancing.
Instructor-led sessions combine practical calculations, system-oriented planning workflows and retail case work. Participants use Excel-based replenishment models and examine planning concepts used in SAP IBP, SAP S/4HANA and Blue Yonder Luminate. By the end of the programme, each participant produces a replenishment operating blueprint for a selected category or retail network, including segmentation rules, replenishment parameters, exception thresholds, KPI definitions and an implementation action plan.
The course is designed for intermediate supply chain and retail operations professionals who already work with sales, inventory, ordering or supplier data and need to improve availability without tying up unnecessary working capital. It is equally relevant to managers seeking a common method for reviewing replenishment performance and challenging parameter decisions.

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have practical experience with retail sales, inventory, purchase-order, store or distribution-centre data, ideally gained in planning, merchandising, supply chain or operations roles. They should understand basic inventory terms such as lead time, stock on hand, sales forecast, service level and minimum order quantity, and be comfortable working with spreadsheet formulas, filters and charts. Familiarity with an ERP, replenishment or forecasting system is useful but not essential. Advanced statistics, programming, formal optimisation methods and prior experience with SAP or Blue Yonder are not required; system examples are explained during the course.
Training methodology
The programme uses short instructor-led briefings followed by worked retail planning exercises using SKU-location data. Participants calculate parameters in Excel, interpret replenishment alerts, compare policy choices and test the consequences of changed demand, lead time and service targets. Case discussions cover grocery, fashion, specialty and omnichannel retail situations, including promotions and seasonal transitions. Small groups develop responses to realistic stockout and excess-inventory scenarios. The final session is an application workshop in which participants complete a replenishment operating blueprint for their own category, channel or network.

Day 1: Retail replenishment foundations and demand segmentation

Day 2: Replenishment parameter design
