Course overview

HSE teams often have inspection forms in multiple formats, inconsistent corrective-action records, and limited visibility of repeat hazards across sites. SafetyCulture iAuditor can standardise field inspections, but its value depends on more than digitising a checklist. Teams must design inspections around legal duties, operational controls and risk priorities; configure evidence capture and escalation; and turn inspection data into decisions that supervisors and managers can act on. This course addresses the practical gap between owning the platform and operating a controlled, auditable HSE inspection workflow.

Participants build and govern SafetyCulture iAuditor workflows for safety, environmental and occupational health inspections. They learn to translate risk assessments and ISO 45001/ISO 14001 control requirements into conditional templates; apply scoring, mandatory responses, photo evidence and issue actions; configure permissions and approval routes; and manage corrective and preventive actions through to verification. The programme also covers inspection scheduling, asset and site data, analytics dashboards, report distribution, data quality controls and exporting trend data for management review.

Teaching combines instructor demonstrations with configuration labs using realistic incident, contractor and environmental-compliance scenarios. Each participant develops a working iAuditor inspection workflow, including a risk-based template, action escalation rules, permissions model, inspection schedule and performance dashboard specification. They leave with an implementation pack that can be adapted for their own site, business unit or HSE programme, plus a course completion certificate.

Requirements and prerequisites

Participants should understand core HSE concepts including hazard identification, risk assessment, control measures, incident follow-up and corrective actions. Experience conducting workplace inspections, audits or site walkarounds is expected, as is confidence using web-based business software and spreadsheets. Participants should have access to a SafetyCulture iAuditor workspace for post-course application where possible; a training environment is used during the course. Prior template-building experience in SafetyCulture is helpful but not required. Coding, database administration, Power BI development and formal lead-auditor certification are not required.

Training methodology

The instructor uses a live SafetyCulture iAuditor training workspace to demonstrate configuration decisions and their operational consequences. Participants then complete guided labs that build templates, scoring rules, issue actions, schedules and analytics views from HSE case material. Small-group reviews test whether inspection questions produce usable evidence and whether escalation routes match site accountability. Daily debriefs compare design choices against ISO control requirements. On day five, participants assemble and present an implementation pack for a selected workplace inspection process, receiving instructor and peer feedback.

Frequently asked questions

Some familiarity with the SafetyCulture interface is useful, but prior template-building experience is not essential. Participants should already understand HSE inspections, hazard controls and corrective-action processes so that the course can focus on advanced workflow design rather than basic safety concepts.

A laptop is required for the configuration labs, whether attending in class or live online. A training workspace is used during the programme; access to your organisation's workspace is helpful for later application but is not required during the course.

It is suited to HSE managers, advisors, environmental managers, operations leaders and platform administrators responsible for inspection consistency and action close-out. It is not primarily a general health and safety awareness course or a beginner introduction to risk assessment.

A general auditing course concentrates on audit principles, evidence collection and audit reporting. This course applies those principles directly in SafetyCulture iAuditor, with hands-on configuration of templates, issues, permissions, schedules, analytics and implementation controls.

Participants can use the template-design method to rebuild a paper or spreadsheet inspection, set failed-item actions and establish action ageing measures. The implementation pack provides a practical starting point for a pilot at one site, department or contractor programme.
