Course overview

SAP S/4HANA programmes lose time and control when teams treat implementation as a sequence of technical tasks rather than a managed business transformation. Project leads must decide where fit-to-standard is appropriate, when extensions are justified, how requirements become backlog items, and how testing, data migration, cutover and adoption are governed. SAP Activate provides the structure, but organisations need practitioners who can apply its phases, work products and quality gates to a real implementation rather than merely describe them.

This course teaches participants to plan and run SAP Activate across Discover, Prepare, Explore, Realize, Deploy and Run. Participants learn to frame a business case and value targets, organise project governance, facilitate fit-to-standard workshops, document configuration requirements, manage a SAP backlog, plan integrations and data migration, coordinate test cycles, and build a cutover and hypercare plan. The course also covers the practical use of SAP Cloud ALM, SAP Activate Roadmap Viewer and SAP Signavio Process Transformation Suite to maintain traceability from process decisions through delivery and operational handover.

Delivery combines instructor-led method briefings with a running SAP S/4HANA implementation case. Teams work through project artefacts including a phase plan, governance model, fit-to-standard decision log, requirements backlog, test approach, migration plan, cutover runbook and adoption actions. Each participant leaves with an SAP Activate implementation playbook tailored to a chosen business scenario, plus templates and review criteria that can be adapted for an active programme.

The course is designed for functional leads, project managers, solution architects, PMO staff and transformation professionals who already understand enterprise systems and need a disciplined method for delivering SAP S/4HANA change.

Course objectives

Requirements and prerequisites

Participants should understand the purpose of ERP systems and have working familiarity with at least one SAP functional area, such as finance, procurement, sales, manufacturing or human resources. Experience on an SAP project, in a business-process role or in project coordination is strongly recommended, because exercises use requirements, process decisions, testing and deployment scenarios. Participants should be comfortable reading process flows, discussing business requirements and using standard web-based collaboration tools. Prior SAP Activate certification, SAP configuration expertise, ABAP development skills and access to a live SAP system are not required. The course explains relevant SAP S/4HANA delivery concepts before applying them.

Training methodology

The course uses short instructor-led briefings to introduce each SAP Activate phase, followed by guided work on a single SAP S/4HANA transformation case. Participants review process scenarios, run simulated fit-to-standard discussions, prioritise backlog items, assess migration and test risks, and configure delivery records in SAP Cloud ALM demonstrations. Small groups challenge each other’s design decisions at phase-gate reviews. On the final day, each participant consolidates the artefacts into an implementation playbook and identifies actions, stakeholders and controls for applying the method to their own programme.
