Course overview
Contracts frequently lose value after signature: obligations are not converted into operational actions, renewals are discovered too late, change requests bypass agreed controls, and supplier or customer performance is reported without a clear link to contractual commitments. The WorldCC Contract Management Standard provides a practical structure for managing the full contract lifecycle, from strategy and authoring through implementation, performance, change, renewal and exit. This course helps professionals replace fragmented contract administration with a disciplined operating model that protects commercial value and improves working relationships.
Participants learn how to apply the WorldCC Contract Management Standard to real contract portfolios and individual high-value agreements. They map lifecycle activities, define contract governance and decision rights, establish obligation and risk registers, create performance-management routines, and use structured approaches for change control, claims prevention, renewal and relationship management. The programme also addresses the people, process, information and technology capabilities needed to embed a consistent contract-management practice.
Delivery combines instructor-led explanation of the Standard with contract scenarios, facilitated workshops and practical template-based exercises. Participants work with a contract-management maturity assessment, RACI matrix, obligation register, risk-and-opportunity log, KPI scorecard and implementation roadmap. By the end of the week, each participant has a tailored WorldCC-aligned Contract Management Standard implementation pack that can be adapted for their organisation, business unit or contract category.
The course is suited to contract, commercial, procurement, project and supplier-management professionals who need to establish, improve or standardise contract management across buy-side, sell-side or internal agreements. It is equally relevant to managers seeking measurable governance, stronger accountability and more reliable value realisation from their contract portfolio.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Assess current contract-management maturity against the WorldCC Contract Management Standard capability areas
- Map end-to-end contract lifecycle activities, control points and accountable roles using a RACI matrix
- Design a contract governance framework with decision rights, escalation routes and meeting cadences
- Build an obligation register that assigns owners, due dates, evidence requirements and status controls
- Create a contract risk-and-opportunity log linked to mitigation actions, triggers and escalation thresholds
- Develop a supplier or customer performance scorecard using contractual KPIs, service levels and review actions
- Apply structured change-control and claims-prevention methods to proposed scope, price and schedule changes
- Produce a phased WorldCC-aligned implementation roadmap for a contract portfolio or business unit
Benefits of attending
For you
- Gain a recognised practical framework for moving from contract administration to managed value delivery

- Prepare for broader contract-management, commercial-management or supplier-management responsibilities
For your organisation
- Establish a common lifecycle method across buy-side and sell-side contract teams
- Reduce missed obligations, unmanaged renewals and undocumented variations through clearer control registers
- Improve accountability by defining contract roles, decision rights and escalation paths
- Increase value realisation through contract-linked KPI reviews, action tracking and risk management
- Generate a practical implementation roadmap rather than relying on isolated training attendance
Target competencies
Who should attend
- Contract Managers — who need a repeatable framework for governing obligations, change and performance
- Commercial Managers — who protect contractual value and manage commercial exposure after signature
- Procurement Managers — who need contract-management controls to carry sourcing commitments into delivery
- Project Managers — who coordinate contractual dependencies, milestones, variations and stakeholder decisions
- Supplier Relationship Managers — who need evidence-based performance reviews and escalation mechanisms
- Legal Operations and In-house Legal Professionals — who support usable contract processes without owning day-to-day delivery
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should understand the basic purpose and structure of commercial contracts, including scope, pricing, term, obligations, service levels, liability and change clauses. Experience working with contracts in procurement, sales, projects, operations or legal support is helpful, but prior formal contract-management training is not required. Participants should be comfortable reading a short contract extract and using spreadsheets for simple registers and action tracking. No WorldCC membership, law degree, CLM platform experience, advanced financial modelling or prior knowledge of ISO standards is required. Complete beginners should expect focused preparation on core contract terminology before applying the Standard.
Training methodology
The programme uses short instructor-led modules to explain the WorldCC Contract Management Standard, followed by hands-on application to a realistic services-contract case. Participants analyse contract extracts, map lifecycle controls, assign RACI roles, populate obligation and risk registers, and run a simulated performance-review and change-control meeting. Small-group work tests decisions against competing commercial, legal and operational priorities. Each day closes with a structured build activity, and the final session converts completed tools into an implementation plan for the participant’s own contract environment.
