Course overview
Senior HR professionals are expected to convert workforce issues into business decisions: whether to build or buy critical capability, where to redesign operating models, how to manage leadership succession, and which people investments produce measurable value. This requires more than sound HR operations. It requires the ability to interpret business strategy, diagnose workforce risks, use people data responsibly, and present recommendations that executives can act on. This course addresses the gap between HR activity and enterprise-level workforce strategy.
Participants learn how to build a strategic HR agenda linked to corporate priorities, conduct workforce and capability analysis, develop talent and succession strategies, design evidence-based reward and performance approaches, and govern people risk. The course applies practical methods including strategy maps, workforce segmentation, scenario planning, nine-box succession assessment, HR scorecards, and ISO 30414 human capital reporting indicators. Participants also strengthen their ability to use dashboards, financial assumptions, and stakeholder analysis to make credible investment cases.
Teaching combines instructor-led frameworks with realistic board-level HR cases, data interpretation exercises, facilitated peer challenge, and workshops using workforce-planning and scorecard templates. Across the week, each participant develops a Strategic HR Action Plan for a selected organisational challenge. The plan includes a business context statement, workforce diagnosis, prioritised initiatives, measures, governance arrangements, risk controls, and a 90-day implementation roadmap suitable for discussion with senior leaders.
The course is designed for experienced HR practitioners moving into strategic partnering, HR leadership, people analytics, talent, reward, or organisational development roles. It is equally relevant to managers responsible for approving HR investment who need their HR function to provide clearer evidence, stronger governance, and more commercially grounded recommendations.

Who should attend

- Senior HR Business Partners — who advise business leaders on workforce, capability, and organisation decisions
- Talent Management Leaders — who need to connect succession, leadership pipelines, and critical-role coverage to business risk
- People Analytics Managers — who must turn workforce data into decision-ready insight and HR performance measures
- Organisational Development Managers — who lead operating-model, culture, capability, and change initiatives
- Reward and Performance Managers — who need to design performance and reward approaches that support strategic outcomes
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have practical HR experience, normally at least three years in an HR generalist, business partnering, talent, reward, OD, or people analytics role. The course assumes familiarity with core HR processes such as recruitment, performance management, employee relations, learning, and basic workforce reporting. Participants should be comfortable reading spreadsheets and interpreting simple measures such as headcount, turnover, vacancy rate, and cost. Prior use of Workday HCM, SAP SuccessFactors, or Power BI is helpful but not required; demonstrations focus on decision use rather than system administration. No advanced statistics, coding, finance qualification, or prior strategic-planning certification is required.
Training methodology
The instructor uses short strategic HR briefings to establish each framework, followed by applied work on workforce data, executive case materials, and participant scenarios. Teams analyse a business strategy, segment its workforce, test planning assumptions, and defend HR investment choices in simulated leadership discussions. Participants use templates for strategy mapping, workforce planning, succession risk, HR scorecards, and implementation governance. Instructor feedback focuses on the quality of assumptions, evidence, commercial logic, and stakeholder framing. The final session is an application-planning workshop in which participants refine their own Strategic HR Action Plan.
