Course overview
Cross-functional projects often fail not because teams lack effort, but because work is split across functions with different priorities, approval paths, tools and reporting habits. Marketing waits for product decisions, operations cannot see launch dependencies, and managers receive status updates that do not identify blocked work early enough. This course helps project leaders turn Asana into a shared operating system for coordinating initiatives across departments, clarifying ownership and giving sponsors reliable evidence for decisions.
Participants learn to design and govern Asana projects for real cross-functional delivery. They configure project templates, sections, custom fields, task relationships, milestones, dependencies, forms, rules, portfolios, goals and dashboards. The course also covers RACI-based ownership, intake design, workload visibility, escalation routes, status-reporting cadences and practical integrations with Slack, Microsoft Teams and Google Sheets. Participants practise choosing the right Asana structure for campaigns, product launches, process-improvement programmes and operational change projects.
Teaching combines instructor demonstrations, guided configuration labs and a five-day case study based on a multi-team business initiative. Participants build an Asana workspace design, configure a live project plan, automate recurring coordination steps and create executive reporting views. They leave with a cross-functional Asana project blueprint: a reusable template, governance model, custom-field dictionary, automation plan, reporting dashboard and 30-day implementation plan suitable for adaptation in their own organisation.
The course is designed for experienced project practitioners, team leads, PMO staff and functional managers who already coordinate work across teams and need more disciplined use of Asana than basic task tracking.

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should be comfortable managing projects with defined scope, milestones, deliverables, stakeholders and basic dependencies. They should have used Asana at least as a task assignee, project member or project owner, and be able to create tasks, assign owners and set due dates. Familiarity with RACI, status reporting and spreadsheet-based project tracking is useful because these concepts are applied throughout the course. Participants need access to an Asana workspace for practice where possible. No coding, API development, formal project-management certification or advanced data-analysis experience is required.
Training methodology
The instructor uses a running case study involving a product launch requiring product, marketing, operations, finance and customer-support contributions. Short demonstrations introduce each Asana feature, followed by guided configuration in participant workspaces and peer review of design choices. Teams map hand-offs, build dependencies, configure forms and rules, and test reporting scenarios where delivery dates or capacity change. Daily debriefs connect configuration decisions to governance practice. The final session includes an application-planning workshop in which participants adapt their project blueprint to an active workplace initiative.

Day 1: Designing the Cross-Functional Asana Operating Model
- Assessing cross-functional workflow failures and Asana design requirements
- Selecting projects, portfolios and teams for different delivery structures
- Creating project templates with sections, task hierarchy and milestones
- Defining task naming, descriptions and acceptance-criteria conventions
- Configuring custom fields for priority, health, workstream and approval status
- Applying RACI matrices to task ownership and decision accountability
- Establishing project governance, update cadences and escalation paths
Workshop: Participants translate a fragmented product-launch workflow into an Asana project architecture and produce a draft project template with a RACI ownership map.
Day 2: Planning Dependencies, Milestones and Delivery Control

Day 4: Portfolio Visibility, Capacity and Executive Reporting
