Course overview

Workplace transformation rarely fails because the new process, system or operating model is technically impossible. It fails when affected people do not understand the reason for change, managers give inconsistent messages, local concerns are discovered too late, and adoption is measured only at go-live. This course equips professionals to plan and lead the people side of change across initiatives such as technology deployments, restructures, process standardisation, policy changes and new ways of working.

Participants learn to diagnose change impacts, segment stakeholders, assess organisational readiness and create practical adoption plans. The course applies the Prosci ADKAR Model, Kotter’s change principles, stakeholder mapping, impact assessment, change risk analysis, communication planning and manager enablement techniques. Participants practise translating a project plan into a change plan with clear ownership, targeted interventions, adoption measures and escalation routes.

Instruction combines focused teaching with workplace-based case analysis, facilitated design workshops and peer review. Each participant develops a Change Management Action Plan for a current or realistic transformation initiative, including a stakeholder map, impact assessment, communication matrix, sponsor roadmap, resistance response plan and adoption measurement dashboard. This deliverable can be refined with project sponsors and used immediately after the course.

The programme is suited to professionals who already work on projects, operational improvement or people leadership and need a disciplined method for securing adoption. It is equally valuable for managers approving change activity who need better visibility of readiness, risks, accountabilities and evidence that a transformation is being embedded rather than merely launched.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Assess organisational readiness using structured readiness criteria, evidence sources and risk ratings
  • Map stakeholders by influence, impact, support level and required engagement approach
  • Conduct a change impact assessment across roles, processes, systems, behaviours and performance measures
  • Apply the Prosci ADKAR Model to identify and address individual adoption barriers
  • Build a targeted communication and engagement plan with audiences, messages, channels, owners and timings
  • Create a sponsor and people-manager enablement plan for visible leadership during change
  • Design resistance management actions using root-cause analysis, listening methods and escalation routes
  • Develop an adoption measurement dashboard with leading indicators, feedback loops and reinforcement actions

Who should attend

  • Project Managers — who must deliver project outcomes that employees and operational teams actually adopt
  • Change Managers — who need a repeatable foundation for planning and coordinating organisational change
  • Operational Managers — who must translate enterprise change into workable local actions for their teams
  • Business Analysts — who identify process and role impacts and need to convert findings into adoption requirements
  • HR and People Partners — who support workforce transitions, manager capability and employee engagement
  • Transformation Office Professionals — who need consistent change controls, reporting and risk visibility across initiatives

Requirements and prerequisites

Participants should have experience of working in, supporting or being affected by a business project, operational improvement initiative or organisational change. Familiarity with basic project concepts such as scope, milestones, risks, stakeholders and deliverables is assumed, as participants will connect change activities to a project or transformation plan. They should be comfortable reviewing simple spreadsheets and preparing presentation material. No prior qualification in change management, psychology, organisational development or formal project management methodology is required. Complete beginners can attend, but should expect to work with a realistic workplace scenario throughout the week.

Training methodology

The course is delivered through instructor-led explanation, facilitated discussion and practical application to a running workplace transformation case. Participants use stakeholder maps, impact-assessment templates, ADKAR diagnostics, communication matrices and adoption measures rather than relying on theory alone. Small-group workshops test alternative responses to resistance, sponsor behaviour and manager communication challenges. Daily exercises build components of an individual Change Management Action Plan. On day five, participants present their plan, receive structured peer and instructor feedback, and define the first actions, owners and evidence needed for workplace application.
