Course overview
Safety teams often hold incident reports, inspections, corrective actions, training records, and regulatory obligations in separate spreadsheets or poorly configured system workflows. This makes it difficult to identify repeat hazards, prove that actions were closed on time, maintain auditable records, or give leaders a reliable view of safety performance. This five-day Cority EHS Safety Management and Compliance course equips practitioners to turn occupational health and safety processes into controlled, traceable workflows within the Cority platform.
Participants learn to configure and use core Cority capabilities for incident reporting and investigation, inspections and audits, action management, regulatory compliance obligations, training and competency records, and safety analytics. They practise building forms, assigning roles, routing approvals, defining due dates and escalation rules, linking corrective actions to findings, and producing dashboards that distinguish leading from lagging indicators. The course also applies ISO 45001 concepts and OSHA recordkeeping requirements to realistic system scenarios, helping participants connect software configuration decisions with operational compliance needs.
Instruction combines guided platform demonstrations with hands-on work in a Cority training environment. Each day uses a workplace case involving hazards, near misses, contractor activities, audits, and overdue actions. Participants configure records, investigate incidents, develop action plans, test workflow outcomes, and review data quality with their peers. They leave with a completed Cority safety-management implementation pack: a process map, configured sample forms and workflows, an action-management matrix, a dashboard specification, and a 90-day application plan for their own site or business unit.
The course is designed for intermediate EHS practitioners, Cority system users, safety coordinators, compliance personnel, and operational leaders who need to improve the quality, visibility, and defensibility of occupational safety information.

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should understand core occupational health and safety concepts, including hazard identification, incident reporting, corrective actions, inspections, and the purpose of regulatory recordkeeping. Prior experience entering records or running reports in Cority, or another EHS management system, is strongly recommended; this is not a first exposure to safety management. Participants should be comfortable using a web browser, spreadsheets, and basic filters or pivot-style summaries. Programming, database administration, API development, and prior Power BI experience are not required. Cority configuration is taught through guided exercises in a training environment.
Training methodology
An instructor leads short configuration demonstrations followed by individual and small-group work in a Cority training environment. Participants use a continuing multi-site safety case to create records, configure forms, investigate a serious near miss, launch inspections, assign actions, and analyse resulting data. Case discussions test how ISO 45001 and OSHA recordkeeping expectations affect system design. Daily reviews compare alternative workflow choices and their control implications. On the final day, participants assemble their own implementation pack and receive structured feedback on priorities, ownership, reporting, and rollout risks.
Course outline
Day 1: Cority safety process architecture and data governance
- Cority EHS module navigation, record relationships, and role-based access
- Occupational safety process mapping from hazard report to verified action closure
- Safety taxonomy design for locations, assets, hazards, injury classifications, and severity
- Required fields, controlled lists, conditional logic, and field-level validation
- User roles, permissions, delegated ownership, and approval responsibilities
- ISO 45001 operational-control concepts translated into Cority record structures
- Safety data-quality controls, audit trails, duplicate prevention, and retention considerations
Workshop: Participants map a site safety process and configure a draft Cority hazard-report form with classifications, mandatory fields, and ownership rules.
Day 2: Incident reporting, investigation, and action control
- Incident, near-miss, unsafe-condition, and observation record types in Cority
- Incident intake workflows, notification rules, and initial severity assessment
- OSHA 29 CFR 1904 recordkeeping concepts and reportable-event data capture
- Five-whys, causal-factor analysis, and barrier-based investigation documentation
- Witness statements, attachments, evidence records, and confidentiality considerations
- Corrective, preventive, and improvement actions with hierarchy-of-controls categorisation
- Action ownership, due-date escalation, closure evidence, and effectiveness verification
Workshop: Using a warehouse forklift near-miss case, participants log the event, complete a causal analysis, and create a controlled corrective-action plan in Cority.
Day 3: Inspections, audits, and compliance obligations
- Inspection and audit template design for field, equipment, and contractor safety checks
- Question libraries, conditional responses, scoring models, and evidence capture
- Mobile inspection execution, offline considerations, and photo attachment practices
- Generating findings and actions automatically from failed inspection responses
- Audit scheduling, recurring programmes, auditee assignments, and review checkpoints
- Compliance register design for legal requirements, internal standards, and obligation owners
- Linking obligation reviews, evidence documents, findings, and action plans
Workshop: Participants build a machine-guarding inspection template, schedule it for multiple locations, and generate follow-up actions from non-conforming responses.
Day 4: Safety performance reporting and assurance
- Leading and lagging indicator selection for occupational safety performance
- Cority report filters, saved views, grouped summaries, and scheduled distribution
- Dashboard design for total recordable incidents, near misses, audit findings, and overdue actions
- Trend analysis by location, hazard category, contractor, task, and injury severity
- Data completeness checks and reconciliation of incident and action records
- Management-review packs aligned to ISO 45001 performance evaluation requirements
- Power BI export and visualisation considerations for Cority safety data
Workshop: Participants create a manager dashboard specification and build a Cority report set that exposes overdue actions and recurring inspection failures.
Day 5: Configuration assurance and implementation planning

- Change-control governance for taxonomy, forms, workflows, and reporting changes
- Migration planning for legacy incident, inspection, and action data

- Ninety-day rollout roadmap with measures of adoption and control effectiveness
