Course overview
Distribution partners often hold different demand signals, inventory records, promotional calendars and service priorities. The result is duplicated safety stock, avoidable expedites, allocation disputes and recurring stock-outs at distributor locations despite adequate supply across the wider network. This course equips supply chain professionals to establish Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR) routines that turn supplier–distributor data into agreed replenishment actions, clear exception ownership and measurable service improvements.
Participants work through the CPFR process from trading-partner selection and joint business planning through collaborative forecasting, order planning, exception management and performance review. They learn to define shared KPIs, map information flows, align item-location hierarchies, set forecast and inventory tolerances, investigate demand and supply exceptions, and convert replenishment policies into practical order proposals. The course addresses both the operating model and the working-level controls needed to manage distributor collaboration without surrendering commercial accountability.
Instructor-led briefings are paired with spreadsheet-based planning exercises, partner-negotiation scenarios and a multi-period distribution case. Participants use CPFR scorecards, exception logs, forecast-accuracy measures, fill-rate measures and inventory-policy templates to make decisions under changing demand and supply conditions. Each participant leaves with a CPFR implementation blueprint for a selected distributor relationship, including governance roles, data requirements, KPI definitions, exception thresholds, meeting cadence and a 90-day pilot plan.
The course is designed for professionals who already work with forecasts, inventory, orders or distribution partners and need a disciplined method for joint replenishment. Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have working experience in distribution, demand planning, inventory control, customer supply chain or procurement operations. They should understand basic concepts including lead time, safety stock, forecast, purchase order, fill rate, inventory turns and SKU-location planning. Confidence working with spreadsheets is required because exercises use Microsoft Excel-style forecast, inventory and exception-management templates. Familiarity with an ERP, planning system or distributor portal is useful but not essential. No prior CPFR certification, advanced statistics, coding, systems configuration or SAP/Oracle expertise is required.
Training methodology
The five-day programme combines instructor-led CPFR design sessions with hands-on planning work using distributor data sets. Participants build forecasts, calculate replenishment parameters, create exception thresholds and review simulated service failures in Microsoft Excel templates. Small groups conduct supplier–distributor planning meetings, negotiate data-sharing and escalation rules, and present decisions from a shared scorecard. Case work follows a distributor relationship through promotions, forecast changes, constrained supply and overdue orders. On the final day, each participant converts the methods into a scoped CPFR pilot and 90-day application plan.
