Requirements and prerequisites

Participants should have experience working in an energy, water, gas, electricity, renewables or related infrastructure organisation, ideally with responsibility for a team, project, asset class, budget or performance measure. Participants should be able to read simple tables and charts in Microsoft Excel. Training methodology

The five-day programme combines focused instructor-led sessions with energy and utilities cases drawn from network operations, asset renewal, customer performance and regulatory management. Participants work individually and in small executive teams to interpret performance packs, rank investment options, build risk maps and conduct stakeholder and governance workshops. A facilitated boardroom simulation tests how participants explain trade-offs under challenge. Each day adds a component to an Executive Utility Management Action Plan, and the final session converts this work into a prioritised 90-day application plan for the participant’s organisation.

Frequently asked questions

The course assumes practical exposure to an energy or utilities environment and familiarity with basic KPIs, budgets, risks and stakeholders. You do not need to be an engineer, accountant or regulatory specialist, but the examples will be most useful if you can relate them to a current operational, asset, project or commercial responsibility.

A laptop is recommended for working on the templates and action plan, especially in live online delivery. The course uses Microsoft Excel-style performance tables and discusses Power BI dashboards, but advanced spreadsheet or Power BI skills are not required.

It is designed for managers and emerging leaders in electricity, gas, water, renewables and infrastructure services who need a wider executive perspective. It is not a technical engineering-design course or a detailed utility regulation qualification.
