Executive teams need a concise, trusted view of performance without waiting for analysts to reconcile spreadsheets, explain conflicting figures, or rebuild slides before every leadership meeting. This course addresses the practical challenge of turning operational, financial, customer, and people data into Tableau dashboards that answer executive questions: Are we on plan? Where are the material exceptions? What requires a decision? Participants learn to design reporting that prioritises business outcomes, target attainment, trends, risks, and accountable action rather than displaying every available metric.

Across five instructor-led days, participants build an executive reporting model in Tableau Desktop, prepare and validate data, define KPI calculations, and create dashboards for leadership review. They use calculated fields, level-of-detail expressions, parameters, sets, reference lines, dashboard actions, and device layouts to create interactive but controlled management reporting. The course also covers metric definitions, reporting governance, visual hierarchy, colour and accessibility choices, data refresh considerations, and publishing governed content to Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud.

Teaching is centred on a realistic executive performance-reporting case, with short demonstrations followed by guided builds, peer critique, and decision-focused dashboard reviews. Participants work from raw operational data through to a publish-ready executive dashboard package: a Tableau workbook, KPI dictionary, dashboard wireframe, source-to-metric mapping, and a practical release plan for their own organisation. The course is suited to managers, analysts, and business intelligence professionals who already work with business performance data and need to produce reporting senior leaders can use with confidence.

Requirements and prerequisites

Participants should be comfortable working with business performance data in spreadsheets or reporting systems and should understand common measures such as actuals, targets, budgets, variances, percentages, and time periods. Prior experience creating basic Tableau worksheets, connecting to a file, and using dimensions and measures is expected; this is not a first-time Tableau course. Bring examples of the KPIs or reporting questions relevant to your role if possible. Advanced statistics, SQL programming, Tableau administration, data science, and prior experience with Tableau Prep Builder are not required.

Training methodology

The course combines focused instructor demonstrations with individual Tableau builds using a multi-function executive performance case. Participants prepare data, define KPIs, create worksheets, and assemble dashboards in progressive stages rather than working from a finished template. Facilitated critique sessions test whether each dashboard supports a leadership decision, while small-group workshops compare metric definitions and visual choices.
