Course overview
Marketing teams often have plenty of GA4 data but limited confidence in the numbers used to justify spend, assess campaign performance, or prioritise website improvements. Differences between users, sessions, events and conversions can produce misleading reports when definitions are not agreed. This course helps participants turn GA4 from a dashboard they check into a reporting system that answers commercial questions about acquisition, engagement, conversion paths and customer behaviour.
Participants learn how the GA4 data model works, including events, parameters, user properties, key events, audiences and attribution. They configure and test meaningful measurement plans; use standard reports, Explorations and comparisons; build funnels and path analyses; investigate landing-page and campaign performance; and identify tracking gaps that affect decision-making. The course also covers UTM governance, Google Tag Manager implementation principles, Looker Studio reporting, BigQuery export use cases, consent-related measurement limitations and practical data-quality checks.
Delivery combines instructor demonstrations with guided work in GA4 and realistic digital-marketing cases. Participants analyse an e-commerce or lead-generation dataset, diagnose a reporting question, create an Exploration, and translate findings into recommendations for stakeholders. They leave with a completed GA4 reporting and insights pack: a measurement-plan template, KPI definitions, report specifications, an Exploration design and a 90-day action plan for improving their organisation's analytics practice.
The course is suited to marketing, digital, e-commerce and insight professionals who need to interpret GA4 confidently or establish more reliable reporting. It is equally valuable for managers responsible for ensuring that campaign and website decisions are based on traceable measures rather than channel-level assumptions.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Define a GA4 measurement plan linking business objectives, user actions, events, parameters and key events
- Configure and validate GA4 events, custom dimensions, audiences and conversion-related settings
- Apply UTM naming conventions to distinguish campaign, source, medium and content performance
- Build GA4 Explorations using segments, comparisons, filters, funnel analysis and path analysis
- Interpret acquisition, engagement and conversion reports using appropriate scopes and metrics
- Diagnose tracking and data-quality issues through DebugView, Realtime reporting and tag verification
- Produce a stakeholder-ready Looker Studio dashboard specification from GA4 KPIs and report requirements
- Recommend optimisation actions from GA4 evidence while documenting attribution and consent limitations
Benefits of attending
For you
- Gain the ability to challenge misleading GA4 interpretations by explaining metric definitions, scopes and attribution limits
- Build a portfolio-quality GA4 Exploration and reporting pack that demonstrates practical analytical capability
- Communicate campaign and website findings as evidence-based recommendations for marketing stakeholders
- Develop confidence to brief developers or agencies on events, parameters, consent considerations and tracking validation
- Strengthen eligibility for digital analyst, e-commerce analyst and marketing performance roles requiring GA4 fluency
For your organisation
- Establish more consistent KPI definitions across marketing, e-commerce, agency and leadership reports
- Reduce wasted media and optimisation effort caused by incorrectly tagged campaigns or unreliable conversion tracking
- Improve website and funnel decisions through structured path, segment and drop-off analysis
- Create clearer requirements for analytics implementation work undertaken by internal technical teams or suppliers
- Provide managers with repeatable reporting specifications and documented caveats for better investment decisions
Target competencies
Who should attend
- Digital Marketing Managers — who need defensible evidence for channel investment and campaign decisions
- Marketing Analysts — who turn GA4 data into recurring performance reports and recommendations
- E-commerce Managers — who need to understand product journeys, checkout drop-off and purchase behaviour
- Web Analysts — who configure, validate and interpret website and app measurement
- Paid Media Specialists — who need consistent UTM data and clearer acquisition-performance analysis
- CRM and Customer Experience Managers — who need to connect online behaviours to journey improvement priorities
Requirements and prerequisites
This is a foundation-to-intermediate course. Participants should be comfortable navigating websites, working with spreadsheets, and reading basic marketing measures such as traffic, conversion rate, leads, revenue and campaign source. Familiarity with their organisation's website, campaign activity and existing reporting questions will make exercises more useful. Prior use of Google Analytics is helpful but not required; complete beginners should expect an introduction to the GA4 interface and terminology before progressing to analysis. Participants do not need coding, SQL, JavaScript, Google Tag Manager implementation experience or prior Looker Studio knowledge.
Training methodology
The instructor introduces each GA4 capability through a business question, then demonstrates the relevant report, setting or diagnostic method in a live account. Participants work through guided exercises using a realistic e-commerce or lead-generation dataset, including event design, UTM review, Explorations and reporting requirements. Small groups compare interpretations of the same data, identify assumptions and present recommendations to a mock marketing leadership team. The final session converts course outputs into a prioritised 90-day measurement and reporting action plan for each participant's workplace.
