Course overview

Claims teams depend on ClaimCenter data to make timely coverage, reserving, vendor, payment and recovery decisions, yet inconsistent use of claim screens, activities, notes, exposures and financial transactions can create avoidable leakage, weak audit trails and slow hand-offs. This five-day course helps insurance professionals use Guidewire ClaimCenter as a disciplined claims-management workspace rather than simply a transaction-processing system. Participants learn how ClaimCenter supports the operational controls required across first notice of loss, investigation, evaluation, settlement and closure.

The course covers the ClaimCenter claim lifecycle, claim and exposure structures, parties and contacts, activities, diary management, reserves, payments, recoveries, subrogation, documents, notes, authority controls and reporting. Participants practise navigating the user interface, interpreting financial transaction status, maintaining claim file evidence, managing work queues and recognising how ClaimCenter exchanges data with PolicyCenter, BillingCenter and external services. They also learn to translate business process requirements into practical ClaimCenter workflow, field, rule and validation requirements for technology teams.

Instruction combines guided demonstrations in a ClaimCenter training environment with realistic property and casualty claim scenarios, including complex claims involving multiple exposures, indemnity and expense reserves, vendor invoices and recoveries. Each participant builds a ClaimCenter claims-handling playbook: a documented workflow containing claim-file standards, activity checkpoints, reserve and payment controls, escalation triggers and reporting measures that can be adapted for their own operation.

The course is suited to claims handlers, supervisors, business analysts, product owners and operational leaders who already work with insurance claims processes and need stronger practical command of ClaimCenter.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Navigate ClaimCenter claim, exposure, contact, activity and financial screens to locate and validate claim-file information
  • Configure a claim-handling workflow map covering FNOL, investigation, evaluation, settlement, recovery and closure
  • Create and manage activities, assignments, diaries and escalation rules that support service-level targets
  • Apply reserve, payment, recovery and subrogation controls using ClaimCenter financial transaction concepts
  • Maintain auditable claim notes, documents, contacts and authority decisions against a defined file standard
  • Analyse ClaimCenter work queues and operational reports to identify aged claims, leakage indicators and workload bottlenecks
  • Specify business requirements for ClaimCenter fields, validations, rules and integrations using structured acceptance criteria
  • Produce a claims-management playbook for a selected claim type with control points, metrics and ownership

Benefits of attending

Who should attend

  • Claims Adjusters and Claims Handlers — who need to manage claim files, activities, reserves and payments accurately in ClaimCenter
  • Claims Team Leaders and Supervisors — who need consistent file quality, workload visibility and escalation controls across their teams
  • Claims Operations Managers — who need to improve cycle time, leakage control and service performance through ClaimCenter processes
  • Insurance Business Analysts — who translate claims-process requirements into ClaimCenter configuration and change requests
  • Guidewire ClaimCenter Product Owners — who prioritise workflow, data, reporting and usability improvements for claims users
  • Quality Assurance and Claims Audit Specialists — who assess file evidence, financial controls and process adherence in ClaimCenter

Requirements and prerequisites

Participants should have practical familiarity with property and casualty claims terminology, including first notice of loss, coverage, exposure, reserve, indemnity, expense payment, recovery and subrogation. Experience working in a claims operation, business-analysis role or ClaimCenter user role is expected; participants should be comfortable navigating browser-based enterprise applications and reading simple process maps. Prior exposure to Guidewire ClaimCenter is helpful but not mandatory. This is not a software-development course: no prior Gosu programming, database administration, API development or system installation experience is required. Participants should bring examples of their own claims workflows or recurring operational issues where permitted.

Training methodology

An instructor leads short, focused sessions using a ClaimCenter training environment, then participants apply each concept to a progressing property and casualty claims case. Guided labs cover claim creation, exposure handling, activities, reserves, payments, recoveries, notes and documents. Small groups review flawed claim files, diagnose control gaps and agree corrective actions. Business-analysis workshops convert operational issues into workflow maps and acceptance criteria. On the final day, participants refine their individual ClaimCenter claims-management playbook and receive instructor feedback on its practical use in their own team.

Frequently asked questions

No, but participants should understand core insurance claims concepts and have experience in a claims, operations or business-analysis setting. The course begins with navigation and claim-file structure before moving into financial controls, workflow requirements and reporting.

For live online delivery, participants need a laptop with reliable internet access and a modern browser. A configured training environment is used for course exercises, so an employer ClaimCenter licence or access to a production instance is not required.

It is designed primarily for claims operations users, supervisors, product owners and business analysts rather than developers. Participants learn how to specify rules, validations and workflow needs, but they do not write Gosu code or administer the platform.

General claims courses focus on policy interpretation, negotiation or regulatory practice. This course concentrates on executing and controlling claims work inside Guidewire ClaimCenter, including exposures, activities, financial transactions, work queues and configuration requirements.

Participants can use the playbook, workflow maps and acceptance-criteria templates to review current claim processes, improve file standards and raise better change requests. The methods are directly applicable to queue management, audit sampling, payment control and claims reporting.

You leave with a ClaimCenter claims-management playbook tailored to a selected claim type, plus workflow maps, a financial-control review record and a sample configuration change request. These outputs can be adapted into team procedures, training aids or project documentation.
