Instruction combines expert-led models with healthcare scenarios involving EHR integration, diagnostic systems, patient identity matching and reporting failures. Participants work in groups to analyse a fictional hospital's information systems estate, prioritise risks and develop a management response. Each participant leaves with a Healthcare Information Systems Management Pack: a systems portfolio map, interoperability assessment, data-governance matrix, risk register, KPI dashboard specification and 90-day improvement plan that can be adapted for their own organisation.

The five days use instructor-led briefings, worked healthcare architecture examples and guided workshops rather than software demonstrations in isolation. Participants analyse an EHR-to-laboratory integration scenario, map patient-data flows, review access-control evidence, investigate an incident trend and define management KPIs. Small groups make governance and investment decisions from realistic clinical, technical and supplier perspectives. Daily outputs are progressively assembled into an individual Healthcare Information Systems Management Pack, with the final session used to test priorities and convert them into a 90-day workplace application plan.

Day 2: Interoperability and healthcare data architecture

You should have experience working with or managing at least one healthcare application and understand basic concepts such as incidents, access permissions, system changes and suppliers. You do not need to be an interface developer, database administrator or cybersecurity specialist.

A laptop is recommended for completing workshop templates and the final management pack. Access to a live EHR or other clinical system is not required; all exercises use course scenarios, templates and sample data.
