Course overview
Medical sales teams operate in buying environments where clinical, financial, operational and compliance concerns all influence the decision. A physician may value patient outcomes, while procurement needs a defensible tender comparison, finance requires a total-cost justification, and clinical engineering must assess implementation and serviceability. Representatives who lead with product features or use a single stakeholder message often lose momentum in long sales cycles, face late-stage objections, or create avoidable compliance exposure. This course develops the disciplined solution-selling approach needed to progress complex healthcare opportunities without overstating claims or bypassing purchasing processes.
Participants learn to qualify accounts, map buying committees, uncover care-pathway and workflow problems, and connect approved product capabilities to measurable customer priorities. The course covers stakeholder interviews, SPIN questioning, value hypothesis development, MEDDICC-based opportunity qualification, economic value modelling, account plans, tender positioning and objection handling. Participants practise distinguishing clinical evidence from promotional claims, documenting customer needs in a CRM, and building business cases that address outcomes, workflow impact, implementation requirements and total cost of ownership.
Delivery combines instructor-led frameworks with healthcare sales cases involving hospitals, clinics, laboratories and procurement-led buying groups. Teams analyse account data, conduct role-play discovery meetings, prepare a compliant value narrative and present a proposal to a simulated buying committee. Each participant leaves with a practical account opportunity plan, stakeholder map, discovery-question set, value message and 90-day pursuit plan that can be adapted to a live account.
The course is suited to medical device, diagnostics, health technology, pharmaceutical services and healthcare solution sales professionals who need a more structured way to sell across clinical and non-clinical stakeholders. It also benefits managers seeking consistent opportunity qualification, stronger forecast confidence and more evidence-based customer conversations across their teams.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

- Conduct SPIN-based discovery conversations that uncover clinical, operational, financial and procurement needs
- Qualify medical sales opportunities using a MEDDICC scorecard and documented evidence gaps
- Build a compliant value hypothesis linking approved product capabilities to customer workflow and outcome priorities
- Create a total-cost-of-ownership model that compares acquisition, implementation, service and operating costs
- Develop an account plan with opportunity milestones, stakeholder actions, risks and next-step ownership
- Prepare tender and proposal messages that respond to weighted evaluation criteria without unsupported claims
- Present a solution recommendation and handle clinical, financial and procurement objections using evidence-led responses

Target competencies
Who should attend
- Medical Device Sales Representatives — who need to sell across clinicians, procurement and hospital leadership
- Healthcare Key Account Managers — who manage complex provider accounts with multiple buying centres
- Diagnostics Sales Specialists — who must connect testing solutions to laboratory workflow and economic value
- Health Technology Sales Executives — who sell digital, connected-care or software-enabled clinical solutions
- Pharmaceutical Services Sales Professionals — who position support programmes within governed healthcare organisations
- Medical Sales Managers — who need a consistent qualification and account-planning method for their teams
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have basic experience of customer-facing sales, account management or clinical-commercial support in healthcare, or be preparing to enter one of these roles. Familiarity with their organisation's product portfolio, approved claims, customer segments and current sales process will help them apply the exercises to live opportunities. Participants should understand simple commercial terms such as pipeline, quotation, margin and purchase order. No prior knowledge of MEDDICC, SPIN Selling, health economics or formal tender management is required. Advanced financial modelling, clinical qualifications and prior use of Salesforce or Veeva CRM are not required.
Training methodology
The programme uses short instructor-led briefings followed by applied healthcare selling work. Participants examine provider account scenarios, procurement documents, clinical workflow maps and sample CRM opportunity records. In rotating roles, they conduct discovery calls with simulated clinicians, procurement leads and finance stakeholders, then receive structured feedback against questioning, compliance and qualification criteria. Small groups build a value case and tender response for a healthcare solution. The final day is an account-pursuit workshop in which each participant converts course tools into a 90-day plan for a current or realistic target account.
