Course overview
IBM Maximo administrators sit between maintenance operations, engineering, IT and finance. When work orders are routed incorrectly, asset hierarchies are inconsistent, security groups expose the wrong records, or integrations fail silently, the consequences include delayed repairs, unreliable maintenance history and poor planning decisions. This course equips participants to configure and govern IBM Maximo so that the system reflects real maintenance processes while remaining supportable through upgrades and organisational change.
Across five days, participants learn to administer core Maximo applications, organisations, sites, sets, security groups and Start Centers; configure domains, database fields, conditional expressions and application controls; manage workflows, escalations and cron tasks; and support asset, location, job plan, work order, inventory and purchasing processes. The course also covers BIRT reporting, integration controls, Automation Scripts, migration packages and practical troubleshooting. Participants gain a structured method for translating approved business requirements into controlled Maximo configuration.
Delivery combines instructor-led demonstrations with guided work in a Maximo training environment. Participants complete configuration tasks, diagnose realistic failures and make design decisions using maintenance-and-engineering scenarios. By the final day, each participant produces a Maximo administration configuration pack containing a security model, workflow or escalation design, configuration change record, migration approach and operational administration checklist that can be adapted for their own site.
The course is best suited to professionals already supporting maintenance systems or preparing to take formal responsibility for a Maximo environment, including teams running IBM Maximo Manage within IBM Maximo Application Suite.

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have working experience of maintenance management or asset-management processes, including assets, locations, work orders, preventive maintenance, job plans, inventory and purchasing. They should be comfortable navigating IBM Maximo, entering and finding records, and interpreting fields, status values and relationships between applications. Basic awareness of role-based access, relational data concepts and scheduled background jobs is helpful. Prior Maximo administration experience is not required, and participants do not need to be developers, database administrators or Java programmers. The course explains configuration concepts before asking participants to apply them in the lab environment.
Training methodology
The course uses short instructor-led explanations followed by guided configuration in an IBM Maximo training environment. Participants work through a connected maintenance scenario: establishing organisational controls, securing user access, configuring an application change, routing a work order, scheduling an escalation and producing an operational report. Facilitated discussions test configuration choices against auditability, maintainability and user impact. Daily troubleshooting cases use realistic symptoms such as missing actions, stalled workflows and failed scheduled tasks. The final session converts lab work into an application plan and administration configuration pack for workplace use.

Day 1: Maximo platform structure and administration foundations

Workshop: Participants configure a multi-site maintenance administration model and produce a security-group matrix for planners, technicians, supervisors and storeroom users.
Day 2: Configuration, data controls and application behaviour

- ALN, numeric, date and crossover domains
- Classifications, attributes and asset data standardisation
- Application Designer controls and field presentation
- Conditional expressions and conditional UI controls
- Lookup configuration, value lists and data-entry validation
- Configuration change documentation and upgrade-safe design
Workshop: Participants configure controlled failure-code entry for work orders and produce a change record covering fields, domains, validation and user-interface impact.
Day 3: Maintenance process automation and scheduled services
- Work order status control and lifecycle design
- Workflow process design, assignments and action nodes

- Escalations, conditions and notification templates
- Cron task instances and scheduled background processing
- Preventive maintenance generation and forecasting controls
- Automation Scripts for validation and controlled business logic
Workshop: Participants build a work-order approval workflow with an overdue-work escalation and produce a test script documenting expected routing and notifications.
Day 4: Reporting, integration and operational troubleshooting

Workshop: Participants diagnose a failed inbound integration and create a parameterised BIRT maintenance-backlog report with an administrator troubleshooting record.
Day 5: Controlled deployment and administration operating model
