This IBM Planning Analytics Financial Forecasting Training Course equips finance professionals to build and manage governed, driver-based forecasting processes in IBM Planning Analytics, reducing cycle time while improving traceability and confidence in management reporting.
Over five days, participants work with IBM Planning Analytics TM1, Planning Analytics Workspace and Planning Analytics for Excel to design multidimensional financial models, load and validate actuals, create forecast versions, define business rules, and distribute input templates to budget holders. The course covers time dimensions, hierarchies, cubes, dimensions, TurboIntegrator processes, rules, feeders, security, workflow and dashboard reporting. Participants learn to translate revenue, headcount, cost, working-capital and capital-expenditure assumptions into integrated financial forecasts, perform scenario analysis, and explain forecast variance using controlled data.
Teaching combines instructor demonstrations with structured model-building labs based on a realistic corporate forecasting case. Participants configure a forecast model, develop calculations and input controls, automate a data load, build dashboards and produce management-ready forecast outputs. They leave with a documented IBM Planning Analytics forecasting model blueprint, including dimensional design, driver assumptions, workflow roles, reporting requirements and a practical implementation plan for their own finance environment. A certificate is issued on completion.

Requirements and prerequisites

Prior exposure to IBM Planning Analytics, TM1 cubes or Planning Analytics Workspace is helpful but not mandatory; attendees will receive guided practice with the platform. Programming experience, advanced SQL, TM1 rule-writing expertise and prior TurboIntegrator development are not required, although participants should be prepared to work with model configuration and calculation logic.
Training methodology
An instructor leads short technical briefings followed by hands-on labs in an IBM Planning Analytics training environment. Each day extends a single corporate planning case: participants model financial dimensions, load actuals, create driver calculations, collect forecast inputs and present management scenarios. Working in pairs and small groups, they review design choices such as account hierarchies, calculation performance, security roles and reporting layouts. The final session is an application workshop in which each participant adapts the case design into a prioritised forecasting-model plan for their organisation.
