This IBM Planning Analytics Financial Forecasting Training Course equips finance professionals to build and manage governed, driver-based forecasting processes in IBM Planning Analytics, reducing cycle time while improving traceability and confidence in management reporting.

Over five days, participants work with IBM Planning Analytics TM1, Planning Analytics Workspace and Planning Analytics for Excel to design multidimensional financial models, load and validate actuals, create forecast versions, define business rules, and distribute input templates to budget holders. The course covers time dimensions, hierarchies, cubes, dimensions, TurboIntegrator processes, rules, feeders, security, workflow and dashboard reporting. Teaching combines instructor demonstrations with structured model-building labs based on a realistic corporate forecasting case. Requirements and prerequisites

Training methodology

An instructor leads short technical briefings followed by hands-on labs in an IBM Planning Analytics training environment. Each day extends a single corporate planning case: participants model financial dimensions, load actuals, create driver calculations, collect forecast inputs and present management scenarios. Working in pairs and small groups, they review design choices such as account hierarchies, calculation performance, security roles and reporting layouts. The final session is an application workshop in which each participant adapts the case design into a prioritised forecasting-model plan for their organisation.

Frequently asked questions

You should understand budgeting, forecasting and core financial statements, and be comfortable working with Excel. Previous TM1 or Planning Analytics experience is useful but not essential because the course starts with model structure before progressing to rules, TurboIntegrator and Workspace development.

For classroom delivery, a configured training environment is normally provided; for live online delivery, you need a reliable internet connection and a current desktop browser. Participants should also have access to Microsoft Excel for Planning Analytics for Excel exercises where included in the delivery environment.

It is designed for both, provided they work on financial forecasting processes. Finance participants learn how to specify and test governed models, while technical participants gain the financial logic needed to build useful driver-based planning applications.

This course concentrates on finance forecasting design: integrated statements, forecast drivers, versions, workflow, variance analysis and management reporting. It uses TM1 technical features only where they support a working financial planning process, rather than focusing primarily on server administration or platform operations.
