Course overview
Icertis administrators sit at the point where contract policy, operational process and system control meet. When contract request forms capture inconsistent data, approvals bypass the right reviewers, clause updates are not governed, or reports cannot explain obligations and cycle times, the result is slower contracting and avoidable commercial risk. This course prepares professionals to administer Icertis Contract Intelligence (ICI) as a controlled contract-management platform rather than simply maintain records and respond to user issues.
Participants work through the administration decisions that shape an Icertis implementation: contract types, metadata, lifecycle states, request forms, workflow routing, clause and template governance, user roles, notifications, integrations and reporting. They learn to translate a business requirement into a configuration specification, test changes in a controlled manner, diagnose common configuration issues and maintain audit-ready administration records. The course also covers how Icertis supports contract authoring, review, approval, signature and post-signature obligation management.
Instructor-led demonstrations are followed by guided configuration labs in an Icertis training environment. Participants use realistic procurement and sales-contract scenarios to configure a contract process, build a clause-driven template, establish approval rules and create operational reports. Each participant leaves with an Icertis administration workbook containing a contract data model, workflow map, role matrix, test script, reporting requirements and a prioritised improvement plan that can be adapted for their own organisation.
The course is designed for experienced contract, procurement, legal operations and systems professionals who already understand how contracts move through their organisation and now need to configure, govern or support Icertis with confidence. It is equally valuable for implementation team members responsible for converting policy and process requirements into sustainable platform controls.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Configure contract types, lifecycle states and metadata fields for distinct buy-side and sell-side processes
- Design Icertis request forms and conditional data capture rules that improve contract intake quality
- Build approval workflows using routing conditions, participant roles, escalations and notifications
- Administer clause libraries, fallback language, templates and Word authoring controls under governance
- Configure role-based access, organisational permissions and segregation-of-duties controls
- Create Icertis Explore reports and dashboards for contract volume, cycle time, obligations and approvals
- Execute configuration test scripts and document defects, expected results and release evidence
- Produce an Icertis administration workbook containing configuration specifications and an improvement roadmap
Benefits of attending
For you
- Gain the ability to convert contract-policy requirements into Icertis fields, workflows, templates and permissions
- Build credible evidence for an Icertis administrator, CLM analyst or legal operations systems role
- Learn to diagnose whether a contract-process issue is caused by data, workflow, access or template configuration
- Develop a reusable administration workbook for proposing and documenting controlled platform changes
- Strengthen cross-functional credibility when working with legal, procurement, sales, IT and implementation partners
For your organisation
- Improve contract-request data quality through governed forms, mandatory fields and conditional capture rules
- Reduce approval delays by aligning Icertis workflow routing and escalations with authority policies
- Lower legal and commercial risk through controlled clause, template, permission and audit-trail administration
- Provide managers with usable reporting on contract throughput, approval bottlenecks and obligation status
- Create a repeatable change-control approach for testing, documenting and releasing Icertis configurations
Target competencies
Who should attend
- Icertis Administrators — who configure and support contract lifecycle processes for business users
- Contract Operations Managers — who need consistent intake, approvals, templates and obligation controls
- Legal Operations Professionals — who govern clause content and translate legal policy into platform rules
- Procurement Systems Analysts — who maintain supplier-contract workflows and purchasing-system connections
- CLM Implementation Consultants — who convert stakeholder requirements into tested Icertis configurations
- Business Process Owners — who sponsor contract-process changes and need to define workable controls
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have practical experience of a contract lifecycle process, including contract requests, authoring, approvals, signature and post-signature obligations. Familiarity with Icertis navigation, contract records and basic search is expected; learners should already know the difference between a contract type, template, clause and workflow. Experience administering another CLM platform or configuring business applications is helpful but not essential. Participants should be comfortable reading process maps and using Microsoft Excel for test evidence. Software development, SQL programming, API coding and prior Icertis certification are not required.
Training methodology
The five-day programme combines focused instructor explanation with live Icertis demonstrations and configuration labs. Participants work from a realistic contract-operating model, configuring intake fields, lifecycle stages, clauses, templates, approval rules, roles and reports in sequence. Short case studies require groups to resolve issues such as an incorrect approval route, uncontrolled fallback language or missing obligation visibility. Daily exercises produce components of an administration workbook. The final workshop connects these components into a tested change proposal and a practical 90-day administration improvement plan.
Course outline
Day 1: Icertis platform foundations and contract data design
- Icertis Contract Intelligence architecture and administrator responsibilities

Workshop: Participants model a procurement contract type and produce a field catalogue, lifecycle map and intake-form specification.
Day 2: Authoring, clauses and template governance
- Clause library structure, categories and clause attributes
- Approved language, fallback clauses and clause-selection rules
- Template design for contract generation and reusable documents
- Microsoft Word authoring integration and field insertion
- Document versioning, redlining and negotiation controls
