Course overview

Human capital data is often spread across HRIS, payroll, learning platforms, engagement surveys and workforce-planning files. Leaders may ask for turnover, diversity, capability, succession or productivity figures that cannot be compared across business units or defended to auditors, boards and investors. This course addresses the practical reporting gap by teaching participants how to apply ISO 30414 to define, govern, calculate and disclose consistent human capital metrics.

Participants work through the ISO 30414 reporting model, including reporting boundaries, stakeholder needs, metric selection, data definitions, calculation rules and evidence requirements. They learn to build measures for workforce composition, recruitment, turnover, diversity, learning and development, leadership, succession, health and safety, productivity and workforce costs. The course also covers data-quality testing, treatment of missing data, privacy controls, narrative disclosures, materiality and alignment with selected GRI human capital disclosures.

Instruction combines expert-led interpretation of the standard with calculation labs, reporting-design workshops and a multi-entity case study. Participants use a metric dictionary, source-to-report data map, control checklist and reporting template to convert raw HR data into decision-ready disclosures. Each participant leaves with an ISO 30414-aligned human capital reporting blueprint for their organisation or a realistic case organisation, including priority metrics, owners, source systems, calculation specifications and an implementation roadmap.

The course is designed for HR, people analytics, sustainability and governance professionals who already handle workforce information and need a repeatable method for credible external or internal human capital reporting. It is equally valuable for managers approving reporting programmes because it connects metric design to governance, assurance readiness and better workforce decisions.

  • Internal Audit, Risk and Governance Professionals — who assess evidence, controls and assurance readiness for non-financial reporting

Requirements and prerequisites

Participants should have working experience with HR reporting, people analytics, talent management, HRIS administration, sustainability reporting or workforce planning. They should be comfortable reading spreadsheet tables, interpreting percentages and rates, and discussing common workforce concepts such as headcount, full-time equivalent, voluntary turnover, diversity and learning participation. Familiarity with Excel or a comparable spreadsheet tool is assumed for calculation exercises. Prior knowledge of ISO management standards, external ESG reporting or Power BI is useful but not required. This is not a statistics, accounting or software-configuration course; no coding, legal qualification or prior ISO 30414 implementation experience is required.

Training methodology

The five-day programme uses short instructor-led briefings to interpret ISO 30414, followed by structured calculation labs and reporting-design workshops. Participants analyse a case organisation with inconsistent HR data, define metric boundaries and formulas, map source fields, identify data-quality failures and draft disclosure language. Small groups review each other’s metric specifications against an assurance checklist. The final day is an applied planning session in which participants assemble an ISO 30414 reporting blueprint and sequence the actions, owners and controls needed for implementation in their own organisation.

Frequently asked questions

No prior ISO certification or standards interpretation experience is required. You should, however, understand basic HR metrics and be able to work with spreadsheet-based data, as the course focuses on applying the standard to real reporting decisions.

A laptop with spreadsheet capability is strongly recommended for metric-design and data-quality exercises. The course demonstrates reporting requirements that can be implemented in Excel, HRIS reporting tools or Power BI; no software configuration is required.

It suits professionals responsible for workforce reporting, people analytics, HR governance, talent metrics, ESG disclosures or HRIS data. It is particularly useful where HR and sustainability teams need to produce consistent figures for senior leadership, boards or external reports.

General people analytics courses often focus on dashboards, statistical analysis or predictive models. This course concentrates on ISO 30414-based metric definitions, reporting boundaries, data controls, disclosure content and assurance-ready evidence.

You can use the metric dictionary and source-to-report map to test whether current workforce figures are consistently defined and traceable. The reporting blueprint provides a practical basis for assigning owners, closing data gaps and sequencing an internal or external reporting programme.

You will leave with a completed ISO 30414-aligned reporting blueprint, a priority metric dictionary, a data-lineage map and a reporting control checklist. These materials are designed to be adapted to your organisation’s workforce, systems and reporting cycle.
