Course overview

Frontline supervisors are often the people expected to make organisational change work without having designed it. They must translate new procedures, systems, safety requirements, service standards or shift patterns into clear daily actions while maintaining output, morale and customer commitments. This course equips supervisors to lead the human side of change at team level: identifying likely resistance, addressing practical concerns, maintaining two-way communication and preventing change activity from becoming another untracked instruction on the noticeboard.

Participants learn to turn a change brief into a supervisor-led implementation plan. They use the Prosci ADKAR Model to diagnose readiness, map affected roles, define behaviour changes, prepare targeted communications and select reinforcement actions. The course also covers stakeholder mapping, listening conversations, resistance analysis, shift-handover communication, escalation routes, training support, adoption measures and post-implementation review. Participants practise leading short team briefings, one-to-one conversations and recovery discussions when uptake falls below expectations.

Delivery combines instructor-led teaching with realistic frontline scenarios involving operational process changes, digital-system roll-outs, revised safety controls and reorganised work routines. Participants work with templates in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint to build a Change Impact and Team Adoption Plan for a live or realistic workplace change. This practical deliverable includes stakeholder analysis, communication actions, ADKAR interventions, risk controls, ownership, milestones and measures of adoption. Participants receive a certificate on completion and leave able to brief their manager on what their team needs to adopt change safely and consistently.

The course is designed for supervisors, team leaders and operational coordinators who already manage people or work allocation and need a structured method for guiding teams through change. It is particularly valuable where supervisors must implement change across shifts, locations or mixed-experience teams.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Translate a change brief into a frontline team change-impact assessment
  • Apply the Prosci ADKAR Model to diagnose individual and team adoption barriers
  • Map stakeholders, affected roles and local influencers using a stakeholder influence matrix
  • Create a supervisor communication plan with briefing messages, feedback channels and escalation routes
  • Conduct structured resistance conversations using listening, probing and response techniques
  • Build a team adoption tracker with milestones, ownership, evidence and corrective actions
  • Facilitate a short change briefing that connects organisational goals to daily work behaviours
  • Produce a Change Impact and Team Adoption Plan for an active workplace initiative

Benefits of attending

For you

  • Gain a repeatable method for leading team adoption rather than relying on one-off announcements
  • Build credibility with managers by presenting evidence-based readiness, risk and adoption updates
  • Handle resistant or anxious team members through structured conversations instead of avoidance or escalation
  • Create a documented change plan that demonstrates supervisory judgement and implementation capability
  • Strengthen readiness for senior supervisor, operations coordinator or change champion responsibilities

For your organisation

  • Improves consistency between central change decisions and the behaviours adopted on the frontline
  • Reduces implementation delays caused by unclear local ownership, missed briefings and unmanaged resistance
  • Provides managers with visible adoption measures, risks and escalation points at team level
  • Protects service, safety and quality performance during process, technology or workforce changes
  • Creates reusable supervisor-level communication, tracking and reinforcement templates for future initiatives

Who should attend

  • Frontline Supervisors — who must convert organisational change into consistent team routines
  • Team Leaders — who coordinate daily work and need to address resistance early
  • Shift Supervisors — who must maintain aligned implementation across handovers and rotating crews
  • Operations Supervisors — who introduce revised processes, systems or performance standards
  • Customer Service Supervisors — who need teams to adopt new service procedures without disrupting customers
  • Warehouse and Production Supervisors — who implement safety, quality or workflow changes on the floor

Requirements and prerequisites

Participants should have current or recent experience supervising staff, allocating work, running team briefings or monitoring operational performance. They should be familiar with their organisation’s basic reporting lines, standard operating procedures and routine communication channels such as shift handovers, team meetings or Microsoft Teams. No formal change-management qualification, project-management certification or prior knowledge of Prosci ADKAR or Kotter’s model is required; these methods are introduced and practised during the course. Participants will benefit most if they bring an example of an upcoming or recent team change, although a realistic case study is provided for those without one.

Training methodology

The five-day programme uses short instructor-led modules followed by supervised application to frontline change scenarios. Participants analyse change notices, convert them into role-based impacts, practise team briefings and conduct resistance conversations using observer feedback sheets. Small groups compare approaches to a systems roll-out, revised safety process and shift-pattern change, then use Microsoft Excel to track adoption actions and risks. Each participant develops and refines a Change Impact and Team Adoption Plan, receives peer and instructor feedback, and finishes with a 30-day workplace application plan.

Course outline

Day 1: Understanding frontline change

  • The supervisor’s role in translating change into daily work
  • Organisational change versus individual adoption
  • Sources of frontline resistance and operational disruption
  • The Prosci ADKAR Model and its five adoption outcomes
  • Kotter’s change principles at team level
  • Change impact categories for roles, routines and measures
  • Distinguishing change risks from routine performance issues

Workshop: Participants analyse a workplace change notice and produce a first-pass role-and-routine change impact map.

Day 2: Diagnosing readiness and planning action

  • Stakeholder influence and interest mapping
  • Identifying formal leaders, informal influencers and blockers
  • ADKAR readiness assessment questions
  • Role-based impact analysis for tasks, skills and controls
  • Change risk register design for frontline implementation
  • RACI allocation for supervisor, manager and support functions
  • Prioritising actions using impact, urgency and readiness criteria

Workshop: Participants build a stakeholder map, ADKAR readiness assessment and risk register for a simulated operational systems rollout.

Day 3: Communicating and managing resistance

  • Crafting supervisor messages that explain why, what and when
  • Briefing structures for shift starts and toolbox talks
  • Two-way communication channels and feedback capture
  • Active listening and probing techniques for change conversations
  • Resistance types: practical, emotional, values-based and misinformation-driven
  • Responding to concerns without overpromising or becoming defensive
  • Escalation routes for unresolved people, process and resource issues

Workshop: Participants deliver a five-minute change briefing and conduct a resistance conversation, receiving structured peer and instructor feedback.

Day 4: Supporting adoption in daily operations

  • Turning desired change into observable work behaviours
  • On-the-job coaching for new processes and systems
  • Training needs analysis for affected team roles
  • Job aids, checklists and standard-work reinforcement
  • Microsoft Teams channels for change updates and issue capture
  • Microsoft Excel adoption trackers and action logs
  • Using leading indicators to identify weak adoption early

Workshop: Participants create a team adoption tracker, job-aid outline and coaching schedule for a revised frontline procedure.

Day 5: Reinforcing change and presenting the plan

  • Measuring adoption, compliance and operational performance
  • Reinforcement methods: recognition, feedback and consequence management
  • Post-implementation review and lessons-learned facilitation
  • Corrective-action planning when adoption measures decline
  • Reporting team change status to operational managers
  • Microsoft PowerPoint change-update presentation structure
  • Thirty-day supervisor implementation planning

Workshop: Participants complete and present their Change Impact and Team Adoption Plan, including measures, risks, escalation points and a 30-day action schedule.
