Course overview

Enterprise opportunities rarely fail because a seller cannot present a product. They fail because the account team has not quantified the business problem, identified the economic buyer, understood the approval path, or exposed a credible competitor position. MEDDICC provides a disciplined qualification method for determining whether an opportunity is winnable, what evidence is still missing, and what actions must happen before a forecast can be trusted. This course helps sales professionals replace optimistic deal narratives with evidence-based account plans and manager-ready opportunity reviews.

Participants learn to apply every MEDDICC element: Metrics, Economic Buyer, Decision Criteria, Decision Process, Identify Pain, Champion and Competition. They practise converting discovery findings into measurable business impact, mapping stakeholder influence, validating decision processes, testing champion strength and documenting competitive risk. The course also covers MEDDPICC-style extensions, including Paper Process and Implicate Pain, so participants can adapt qualification depth to complex procurement-led enterprise deals. They learn how to record qualification evidence in CRM fields, use gap analysis to direct next steps and build forecast confidence from observable deal facts.

Instruction combines facilitated teaching, deal-review demonstrations, enterprise sales case studies, role-played discovery calls and working sessions using participants' live or realistic opportunities. Each participant develops a MEDDICC opportunity dossier: a stakeholder map, metrics hypothesis, decision-process map, champion assessment, competition plan and mutual action plan. The final day includes a structured deal inspection in which participants defend their qualification evidence and receive practical coaching on the highest-value actions for advancing or disqualifying the opportunity.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply the MEDDICC framework to qualify enterprise opportunities using evidence rather than seller assumptions
  • Quantify customer Metrics through value hypotheses, baseline measures and financial-impact calculations
  • Map Economic Buyers, technical evaluators, users, procurement and executive sponsors in an account stakeholder map
  • Validate Decision Criteria and Decision Process through targeted discovery questions and documented proof points
  • Diagnose customer Pain and Implicate Pain using consequence-based discovery techniques
  • Assess Champion strength with influence, access, credibility and motivation tests
  • Build a competition strategy covering incumbent alternatives, named competitors and no-decision risk
  • Produce a MEDDICC opportunity dossier and mutual action plan for a live or simulated enterprise deal

Benefits of attending

For you

  • Conduct senior-level discovery conversations that expose quantified business pain and decision evidence
  • Present a defensible deal assessment instead of relying on activity volume or subjective confidence
  • Improve credibility with sales leaders by identifying qualification gaps and clear next actions

  • Build a reusable MEDDICC dossier template for managing future enterprise opportunities

For your organisation

  • Improve forecast accuracy by requiring evidence for buying process, stakeholder access and quantified value
  • Reduce wasted presales and leadership time on opportunities that lack a viable decision path

Who should attend

  • Enterprise Account Executives — who need a repeatable method for progressing complex, multi-stakeholder opportunities
  • Strategic Account Managers — who must protect and expand high-value accounts through rigorous stakeholder and value analysis
  • Sales Managers — who need evidence-based deal inspection and more reliable pipeline forecasts
  • Business Development Managers — who qualify large opportunities before committing specialist sales resources
  • Sales Engineers — who must connect technical evaluation criteria to business pain and buying decisions
  • Revenue Operations Managers — who design CRM qualification fields, stage definitions and forecast-governance processes

Requirements and prerequisites

Participants should have experience selling, supporting or managing B2B opportunities with more than one stakeholder and should understand basic sales concepts such as discovery, pipeline stages, account plans, CRM opportunity records and forecast categories. Bringing a current enterprise opportunity, suitably anonymised if necessary, will make the workshops more useful. Familiarity with Salesforce Sales Cloud or HubSpot CRM is helpful because examples use common CRM fields, but no advanced administration skills are needed. No prior MEDDICC certification, finance qualification, negotiation course or specialist industry knowledge is required.

Training methodology

The course uses short instructor-led briefings followed by repeated application to enterprise account scenarios and participants' own opportunities. Teams analyse CRM opportunity notes, identify missing MEDDICC evidence, prepare discovery questions and conduct role-played calls with economic buyers, champions and procurement stakeholders. Facilitators model a structured deal inspection and challenge unsupported assumptions using an evidence rubric. Daily exercises produce components of the final opportunity dossier, while the final workshop turns qualification gaps into a sequenced mutual action plan and individual on-the-job application plan.

Course outline

Day 1: MEDDICC foundations and evidence-based qualification

  • Enterprise opportunity failure patterns and false-positive pipeline signals
  • MEDDICC framework purpose, definitions and qualification evidence
  • MEDDPICC extensions: Paper Process and Implicate Pain
  • Difference between sales stages, activity tracking and qualification status
  • Evidence hierarchy: customer statements, documents, access and observed actions
  • Opportunity scoring using MEDDICC red, amber and green indicators
  • CRM opportunity-field design for consistent qualification capture

Workshop: Participants audit a simulated enterprise opportunity, score each MEDDICC element and produce an evidence-gap register.

Day 2: Metrics, pain and business value

  • Identifying operational, financial and strategic customer Metrics
  • Baseline, target and value-driver calculations for business cases
  • Value hypotheses versus verified customer outcomes
  • Pain discovery using current state, impact and desired-state questions
  • Implicate Pain techniques for exposing cost of inaction
  • Linking pain to executive priorities and strategic initiatives
  • Documenting metrics assumptions and validation actions in CRM

Workshop: Participants build a quantified value hypothesis and pain narrative for a case account, including assumptions to validate in discovery.

Day 3: Economic buyers, champions and stakeholder influence

  • Identifying the true Economic Buyer versus budget holders and executive sponsors
  • Economic Buyer access strategies and executive conversation preparation
  • Stakeholder mapping by influence, attitude, role and information access
  • Champion qualification: power, credibility, access and personal win
  • Mobiliser and coach distinctions in complex buying groups
  • Multi-threading plans for technical, operational and executive stakeholders
  • Testing stakeholder claims through corroborating evidence

Workshop: Participants create a stakeholder influence map and champion-strength assessment, then plan an Economic Buyer access route.

Day 4: Decision process, procurement and competition

  • Eliciting explicit Decision Criteria across business, technical and commercial dimensions
  • Mapping the customer Decision Process from evaluation to signature
  • Paper Process analysis: legal, security, procurement and contracting gates
  • Mutual action plans with owners, dates, dependencies and customer commitments
  • Competitive positioning against incumbents, named vendors and internal alternatives
  • No-decision risk indicators and disqualification criteria
  • Deal-risk reviews using MEDDICC evidence and next-step tests

Workshop: Participants map a buying and paper process for a case deal and produce a competitive risk plan with mutual action milestones.

Day 5: Deal inspection, forecasting and field application

  • Running a manager-grade MEDDICC deal inspection
  • Challenging unsupported evidence without turning reviews into interrogations
  • Forecast category decisions based on qualification completeness
  • CRM dashboards for MEDDICC gaps, aging risks and next actions
  • Account-team alignment across sales, sales engineering and customer success
  • Recovery plans for stalled, single-threaded and procurement-blocked deals
  • Ninety-day MEDDICC adoption plan and coaching cadence

Workshop: Participants present their completed MEDDICC opportunity dossier in a deal inspection and leave with a prioritised 90-day application plan.

Frequently asked questions

No. The course introduces the framework from first principles, then moves quickly into enterprise-level application. Participants should already understand basic B2B selling, opportunity stages and customer discovery.

A laptop is recommended for working with the supplied templates and reviewing CRM-style examples. Bringing a live deal is strongly encouraged, although an anonymised account or course case can be used where customer confidentiality applies.

No. It is designed for enterprise sellers, strategic account managers, sales managers, sales engineers and revenue operations professionals. Each role applies MEDDICC differently, from discovery and deal strategy to inspection, CRM design and forecasting.

Consultative selling courses focus broadly on conversations and needs discovery, while negotiation courses focus on reaching agreement. This course concentrates on proving whether a complex opportunity is qualified, identifying missing buying evidence and directing account actions before the deal reaches negotiation.

Participants learn how to translate each MEDDICC element into evidence fields, notes, risk indicators and next actions in systems such as Salesforce Sales Cloud or HubSpot CRM. The opportunity dossier provides a practical structure that can be adapted to the organisation's existing stage model.

You leave with a completed MEDDICC opportunity dossier, including a metrics hypothesis, stakeholder map, decision-process map, champion assessment, competition plan and mutual action plan. You also receive a 90-day plan for applying the method in deal reviews and active account work.
