Course overview
Agile PMOs need to make resource decisions before every team, role and project demand becomes urgent. Planview AdaptiveWork provides the data structure to connect strategic initiatives, project work, capacity, allocations and delivery priorities, but it only produces reliable plans when PMO practitioners understand how to configure and govern the underlying information. This course addresses the practical challenge of balancing agile delivery commitments with finite specialist capacity, changing portfolio priorities and the need for transparent management reporting.
Participants learn how to use Planview AdaptiveWork to create resource-aware project and portfolio plans. They build workspaces, work items, roles, resource requests and allocations; analyse capacity, utilisation and demand; and use portfolio views to identify bottlenecks and competing commitments. The course also covers practical PMO methods for demand intake, role-based planning, prioritisation, scenario comparison, exception management and reporting. Participants gain a repeatable approach for translating agile team needs into evidence-based resource plans that executives and delivery managers can act on.
Delivery combines instructor demonstrations in Planview AdaptiveWork with guided configuration labs, resource-planning case studies and facilitated decision workshops. Each participant works through a realistic multi-project PMO scenario, using project demand, team capacity and changing priorities to build and adjust an operating plan. They leave with a completed AdaptiveWork resource-planning workbook, including a portfolio demand view, capacity model, allocation plan, governance rules and a 90-day implementation action plan for their own organisation.
The course is designed for intermediate PMO, portfolio, resource-management and delivery professionals who already work with project data and need to establish more dependable capacity and allocation decisions in Planview AdaptiveWork.

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have working experience in a project, PMO, portfolio, resource-management or agile delivery role and understand basic concepts such as projects, milestones, roles, capacity, utilisation, resource allocation and backlog or iteration-based delivery. Familiarity with navigating Planview AdaptiveWork, formerly Clarizen, is strongly recommended; participants should be able to open projects and interpret standard project information. Basic spreadsheet skills are useful for reviewing planning data. Advanced administration, scripting, API development, finance qualifications and prior experience with Planview integrations are not required.
Training methodology
The course uses live instructor-led teaching, Planview AdaptiveWork demonstrations and structured hands-on labs in a realistic PMO planning environment. Participants configure project demand, resource roles, availability and allocations, then interpret capacity and utilisation signals as priorities change. Small-group workshops test allocation decisions against an agile portfolio case, requiring participants to defend trade-offs using AdaptiveWork data. Daily exercises build toward an end-of-course resource-planning pack and a facilitated application plan that identifies the first configuration, governance and reporting improvements to make at work.
