Course overview

Digital transformation programmes often fail not because the target platform is weak, but because employees do not understand why new processes, data standards, automation, analytics tools or operating models are being introduced. Project teams may deliver a cloud migration, ERP rollout, CRM replacement or AI-enabled workflow on schedule, yet adoption stalls when affected people lack the awareness, desire, knowledge, ability or reinforcement to work differently. This course equips professionals to manage the people side of digital change alongside technical delivery.

Participants apply the Prosci ADKAR Model to digital transformation initiatives, translating programme objectives into practical adoption activities for distinct stakeholder groups. They learn to define change impacts, assess readiness, map sponsors and people managers, identify ADKAR barriers, create targeted communications, plan training and performance support, and measure adoption after go-live. The course also uses Prosci's PCT Model and 3-Phase Process to connect individual change outcomes with project governance, leadership sponsorship and benefits realisation.

Instructor-led sessions combine worked examples from ERP, cloud, data and automation deployments with structured workshops. Participants build an ADKAR-based change management plan for a selected digital initiative, including a stakeholder and impact assessment, sponsor roadmap, communications actions, resistance response plan, training approach, adoption measures and reinforcement actions. They leave with a usable set of templates and a prioritised 90-day application plan that can be taken into a live programme or transformation portfolio.

The course is suited to change practitioners, digital project leaders, product and transformation managers, business analysts and people leaders who must turn technology implementation into sustained business adoption. It is appropriate for professionals building formal change capability as well as experienced project staff seeking a disciplined Prosci method for complex digital initiatives.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply the Prosci ADKAR Model to diagnose individual adoption barriers in a digital transformation initiative
  • Conduct a stakeholder and change-impact assessment for a cloud, data, ERP or automation deployment
  • Build an ADKAR-based change management plan with actions for Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability and Reinforcement
  • Use the Prosci PCT Model to assess programme health across leadership, project management and change management
  • Create a sponsor roadmap that defines visible leadership actions, messages and escalation responsibilities
  • Design role-based communications, learning and performance-support interventions for affected user groups
  • Develop a resistance management plan using root-cause analysis and targeted ADKAR responses
  • Define adoption measures, feedback loops and reinforcement actions for post-go-live benefits realisation

Benefits of attending

For you

  • Gain a recognised working vocabulary for explaining adoption risk to IT, business and executive stakeholders
  • Produce an ADKAR change plan that demonstrates practical capability beyond communications-only change management
  • Improve credibility in cloud, ERP, data and automation programmes by linking people activities to delivery milestones
  • Learn to diagnose resistance systematically rather than treating low adoption as a generic training problem
  • Build a portfolio-ready set of stakeholder, sponsor, readiness and adoption-measurement artefacts

For your organisation

  • Reduce delayed uptake of new platforms by identifying Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability and Reinforcement gaps early
  • Improve alignment between technical release plans, business readiness activities and post-go-live support
  • Give sponsors and line managers clear, accountable actions rather than relying solely on central change teams
  • Create consistent change artefacts and adoption measures across digital transformation workstreams
  • Protect technology investment and expected benefits through structured reinforcement and resistance management

Who should attend

  • Change Managers — who need a repeatable Prosci method for driving adoption of digital initiatives
  • Digital Transformation Managers — who must convert technology roadmaps into measurable employee and business uptake
  • IT Project Managers — who need to integrate people-side change activities with delivery milestones and go-live plans
  • Product Managers — who introduce new digital products or workflows and depend on sustained user behaviour change
  • Business Analysts — who translate process and system impacts into stakeholder requirements, communications and training needs
  • Data and Technology Leaders — who sponsor platform, analytics or automation changes and must secure business ownership

Requirements and prerequisites

No formal Prosci certification or previous change-management qualification is required. Participants should be familiar with the basic lifecycle of a digital project, such as discovery, design, build, testing, deployment and hypercare, and should be able to describe one current or planned technology change in their organisation. Experience with stakeholder engagement, project delivery, business analysis or team leadership is helpful but not essential. Complete beginners can attend and will receive a foundation in ADKAR terminology and change planning. Participants do not need coding skills, data science knowledge, ERP configuration experience or access to a live transformation programme.

Training methodology

The five-day course is delivered through instructor-led explanation, facilitated discussion and practical application to digital transformation scenarios such as ERP rollout, cloud migration and data-platform adoption. Participants work individually and in groups with Prosci templates to assess impacts, diagnose ADKAR barriers and plan sponsor, communications, learning and reinforcement activities. Case discussions examine common failure points at deployment and hypercare. Each day adds a component to a single change plan, culminating in a peer-reviewed application workshop and a 90-day implementation plan for a participant-selected initiative.

Course outline

Frequently asked questions

No. The course starts with the ADKAR Model and introduces the related Prosci PCT Model and 3-Phase Process in context. Familiarity with a digital project lifecycle is helpful because exercises use realistic implementation milestones.

A laptop is strongly recommended for completing the planning templates and capturing your application plan. No licensed Prosci software or organisational system access is required; course materials provide the templates used in class.

It is designed for professionals responsible for adoption of digital platforms, processes, data products or automation, including change managers, project managers, product managers and business analysts. It also suits technology and business leaders who sponsor major implementation programmes.

Project and agile methods organise scope, delivery, releases and governance; this course concentrates on the human adoption required for those releases to create value. Participants use ADKAR to diagnose and address why affected people may not adopt a new system or way of working.

Yes. Participants are encouraged to use a current or planned initiative as their working case, subject to confidentiality requirements. The resulting stakeholder assessment, ADKAR plan and adoption measures can be adapted directly into programme documentation.

You will leave with a completed ADKAR-based change management plan, stakeholder and impact assessment, sponsor roadmap, resistance actions, adoption-measurement outline and 90-day action plan. These artefacts are structured for refinement with your project team after the course.
