Course overview
HR leaders are frequently asked to implement changes that alter how people are recruited, onboarded, paid, assessed, developed, scheduled, or supported. Yet a technically sound HR policy or system rollout can still fail when managers cannot explain the reason for change, employees lack confidence in new processes, and HR teams have no structured way to identify adoption barriers. This course equips HR professionals to manage the people side of initiatives such as HRIS deployments, restructures, new performance management frameworks, workforce policy changes, and shared-services transitions.
Participants learn to apply the Prosci ADKAR Model—Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability and Reinforcement—to HR change scenarios. They translate enterprise change goals into employee-level outcomes, assess stakeholder readiness, identify ADKAR barriers, build manager and communication plans, and define adoption measures. The course also uses the Prosci 3-Phase Process and Prosci Change Triangle (PCT) Model to connect HR sponsorship, project delivery, people managers, and change activities in a disciplined implementation plan.
Instructor-led sessions combine HR-focused case analysis, structured worksheets, peer review, and practical planning exercises. Participants work through a realistic change case and develop an HR Change Adoption Plan containing stakeholder segments, ADKAR assessments, sponsor actions, manager enablement activities, communications, resistance responses, and reinforcement measures. They leave with a reusable set of templates and a course completion certificate, ready to apply the method to an active workplace initiative.
The course is suited to HR professionals who lead or support organisational change and to managers who need HR initiatives to achieve measurable employee adoption rather than merely reach implementation milestones.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Apply the Prosci ADKAR Model to diagnose individual adoption barriers in an HR change initiative
- Map HR stakeholder groups by change impact, influence, readiness and likely resistance
- Build an ADKAR assessment that identifies Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability and Reinforcement gaps
- Design sponsor, manager and HR change-agent actions using the Prosci Change Triangle Model
- Create a segmented communication plan for policy, process, HRIS or workforce changes
- Facilitate manager-led conversations that address employee resistance and build Desire for change
- Define adoption, proficiency and reinforcement measures for an HR change scorecard
- Produce an HR Change Adoption Plan using Prosci 3-Phase Process activities and templates
Benefits of attending

Target competencies
Who should attend
- HR Directors and Heads of HR — who must ensure major people initiatives achieve sustained workforce adoption
- HR Business Partners — who advise leaders and managers through local implementation challenges
- HR Transformation Managers — who coordinate change across HR operating-model, process and technology programmes
- HRIS and People Systems Managers — who need employees and managers to adopt new HR platforms and workflows
- Learning and Development Managers — who must distinguish training needs from wider change-readiness barriers
- Employee Relations and Organisational Development Specialists — who support consultation, engagement and behaviour change
Requirements and prerequisites
This is a foundation-to-intermediate course. Participants should understand the basic purpose of core HR functions such as recruitment, performance management, learning, employee relations, reward or HR systems, and should be able to describe one current or recent workplace change. Experience supporting a policy rollout, HR technology implementation or organisational initiative is helpful but not essential. No prior Prosci certification, formal project-management qualification, change-management software, statistical expertise or advanced spreadsheet skills are required. A complete beginner should expect to learn the ADKAR method from first principles while applying it to practical HR scenarios.
Training methodology
The programme is delivered through facilitated instruction, HR-specific case studies and workshop-based planning. The instructor demonstrates each Prosci tool before participants apply it to scenarios such as an HRIS rollout, revised performance process or organisational restructuring. Small-group work tests stakeholder assessments, communication choices and resistance responses against realistic manager and employee concerns. Participants receive feedback on their draft materials throughout the week, then consolidate the work into an end-of-course HR Change Adoption Plan that can be adapted for a live initiative.
