Course overview
Search teams often have access to Semrush but lack a repeatable method for turning its data into pages, priorities and measurable organic growth. Keyword lists can become inflated with low-value terms, competitors can be tracked without producing actionable insight, and technical issues may be reported without a clear route to resolution. This course addresses the operational gap between using Semrush reports and making defensible SEO decisions for a live website, product line or client portfolio.
Participants learn to use Semrush for keyword discovery, search-intent classification, competitor benchmarking, rank tracking, site auditing, backlink analysis and content opportunity planning. They practise building keyword clusters, assessing SERP features and difficulty, identifying cannibalisation risks, prioritising technical fixes, and converting Organic Research and Keyword Gap findings into a focused SEO roadmap. The course also connects Semrush data with Google Search Console and GA4 so participants can distinguish estimated visibility from owned performance data.
Teaching combines instructor demonstrations in Semrush with guided exercises based on realistic B2B, ecommerce and service-business scenarios. Each participant works through a structured five-day workflow and leaves with a documented SEO opportunity assessment: a keyword map, competitor comparison, technical-audit prioritisation matrix, content brief and 90-day action plan. This gives both the attendee and their manager a practical artefact that can be adapted for immediate use on their own site.
The course is best suited to marketers and SEO practitioners who already understand basic organic-search concepts and now need confident, disciplined use of Semrush to plan, execute and report SEO work.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Build a Semrush project with Position Tracking, Site Audit and competitor configuration for a target domain
- Generate and qualify keyword opportunities using Keyword Magic Tool, volume, difficulty, intent and SERP-feature filters
- Create keyword clusters and map them to existing, new and optimised landing pages
- Benchmark organic competitors using Organic Research, Keyword Gap and Traffic Analytics evidence
- Prioritise Site Audit findings with an impact-versus-effort remediation matrix
- Analyse backlink gaps and toxic-link indicators to support a defensible off-page SEO plan
- Reconcile Semrush visibility estimates with Google Search Console and GA4 performance metrics
- Produce a 90-day SEO action plan containing a keyword map, content briefs, technical priorities and reporting measures
Benefits of attending
For you
- Gain a structured method for converting Semrush data into prioritised SEO work rather than isolated reports
- Build confidence explaining keyword difficulty, intent, competitor gaps and audit findings to non-specialist stakeholders
- Create stronger content briefs by grounding recommendations in SERP analysis, keyword clusters and ranking-page patterns
- Develop evidence-led SEO audit skills applicable to in-house websites, ecommerce platforms and client accounts
- Leave with portfolio-ready examples of a keyword map, technical prioritisation matrix and 90-day SEO roadmap
For your organisation
- Improve SEO investment decisions through documented keyword opportunity, competitor evidence and expected business relevance
- Reduce wasted content production by mapping search demand and intent to clear page-level actions
- Create a consistent process for identifying, triaging and assigning technical SEO issues from Semrush Site Audit
- Strengthen reporting by connecting third-party visibility data with Google Search Console and GA4 outcomes
- Increase team self-sufficiency in using existing Semrush licences for research, monitoring and optimisation planning
Target competencies
Who should attend
- SEO Specialists — who need a repeatable Semrush workflow for research, auditing and prioritisation
- Digital Marketing Managers — who must allocate SEO budget against evidence of commercial opportunity
- Content Marketing Managers — who need to commission search-led content from validated keyword and SERP insight
- PPC Specialists — who want to use paid-search and organic keyword data to identify coverage gaps and landing-page opportunities
- Ecommerce Managers — who need to improve category, product and faceted-navigation visibility in competitive search results
- Marketing Consultants — who must produce credible SEO audits and roadmaps for client stakeholders
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should already understand the basic purpose of SEO, including how search engines index pages, the difference between on-page and off-page factors, and the meaning of keywords, rankings, organic traffic and conversions. Experience using spreadsheets is required because exercises involve filtering, grouping and prioritising exported data. Familiarity with Google Search Console or GA4 is helpful but not essential. Participants need access to a laptop and, ideally, a Semrush account with project access; a limited account or instructor-provided exercise data can be used where necessary. No coding, advanced analytics or prior Semrush certification is required.
Training methodology
The instructor demonstrates each Semrush workflow on a live-style training domain before participants repeat it in their own project or supplied case data. Short technical briefings are followed by hands-on work in Keyword Magic Tool, Organic Research, Keyword Gap, Site Audit, Backlink Analytics and Position Tracking. Teams compare competitor evidence, challenge keyword priorities and develop page recommendations from SERP observations. Daily exercises produce components of an SEO plan, culminating in an individual or team 90-day application plan reviewed against practical business constraints.
