Course overview
Public relations teams need more than clipping volumes and positive-versus-negative mentions. They must identify emerging narratives before they become reputational issues, distinguish journalist coverage from customer conversation, trace how stories travel across news, social, forums and broadcast, and brief leaders with evidence they can act on. This course addresses the operational gap between having access to Talkwalker and using it to make defensible communications decisions during campaigns, issues and crisis situations.
Participants learn to configure Talkwalker searches for brands, executives, products, competitors and live issues using Boolean logic, exclusions, language filters and source selection. They analyse reach, engagement, sentiment, themes, audiences, share of voice and influencer activity; validate automated findings against source-level evidence; and use dashboards, alerts and reporting views to monitor PR performance. The course also covers campaign measurement frameworks, earned-media benchmarking, crisis escalation criteria and the interpretation of spikes, anomalies and narrative shifts.
Delivered over five instructor-led days in the classroom or live online, the programme combines guided platform demonstrations with individual query-building labs, communications case studies and team briefing exercises. Participants work with realistic media-intelligence scenarios and build a reusable Talkwalker monitoring plan. They leave with a completed search taxonomy, Boolean query set, alert specification, reporting dashboard design and a PR measurement scorecard that can be adapted for their organisation. A certificate is awarded on completion.
The course is designed for communications professionals who already understand the fundamentals of PR activity and now need to operate Talkwalker confidently for ongoing reputation monitoring, campaign evaluation and executive reporting. It is equally relevant to managers responsible for assuring the quality, consistency and business value of media-intelligence work.

- Communications Managers — who oversee media monitoring and must brief senior stakeholders with credible insight
- Media Relations Specialists — who need to assess coverage quality, journalist impact and message penetration
- Corporate Affairs Professionals — who monitor policy, stakeholder and public narratives affecting the organisation
- Social Media Managers — who need to connect social conversation with news coverage and broader reputation signals
- Marketing Insights Analysts — who support communications teams with audience, competitor and campaign intelligence
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have practical experience of public relations, media relations, corporate communications or social-media monitoring, and should be comfortable interpreting basic communications measures such as volume of mentions, reach, engagement and sentiment. Familiarity with campaign objectives, stakeholder groups and the difference between owned, earned and paid media is assumed. Access to a Talkwalker training, sandbox or organisational account is strongly recommended for hands-on work; participants should also be able to use spreadsheets for simple data review. Prior Boolean-search expertise, data-science knowledge, coding, API experience or advanced dashboard design is not required.
Training methodology
The instructor demonstrates Talkwalker workflows using PR scenarios, then participants apply each technique in guided labs on search construction, filtering, alert configuration and dashboard design. Case material includes a campaign launch, an executive issue and a fast-moving reputational spike, requiring teams to validate results rather than accept automated metrics uncritically. Small-group review sessions compare query choices and reporting interpretations. On the final day, each participant converts their work into a practical 90-day monitoring and reporting plan for a real or simulated communications remit.
