Course overview
Complex sales negotiations rarely fail because a seller cannot present value. They fail when teams enter late, negotiate against a single contact, concede without trading, overlook procurement’s approval logic, or treat signature as the finish line rather than a controlled closing process. For account executives, sales leaders and commercial managers handling enterprise, strategic or high-value opportunities, the cost is visible in unnecessary discounting, delayed decisions, margin erosion, weak contract terms and forecasts that do not convert to revenue.
This five-day Advanced Strategic Sales Negotiation and Deal Closing Training Course develops the commercial discipline required to negotiate multi-stakeholder deals with greater control. Participants learn to map decision-makers, influencers, blockers and procurement roles; diagnose interests behind stated positions; build a quantified negotiation plan; set targets, reservation points and walk-away positions; use conditional concessions; manage price pressure; and create credible value trades. The course also covers objection handling in late-stage negotiations, executive-to-executive alignment, contract redlines, mutual action plans, closing language and recovery tactics for stalled deals.
Training is built around realistic enterprise sales cases, including a buyer-led procurement negotiation, a competitive renewal, and a delayed deal requiring executive intervention. Participants use opportunity data, stakeholder maps, concession trackers and closing plans to prepare and run structured negotiations. Each participant leaves with a completed Strategic Deal Negotiation Playbook for a live or representative opportunity, including a stakeholder map, negotiation brief, value case, concession matrix, risk log, mutual action plan and post-signature expansion actions.
The course is particularly suited to professionals who already manage qualified opportunities and need to improve outcomes in complex, high-value or commercially sensitive sales cycles. It gives managers a practical framework for coaching deal teams, reviewing negotiation readiness and protecting deal economics before commercial commitments are made.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Construct a stakeholder influence map that identifies economic buyers, champions, procurement gatekeepers and potential blockers
- Calculate target, reservation and walk-away positions using deal economics, margin thresholds and BATNA analysis
- Build a negotiation brief containing interests, issues, trade variables, assumptions, risks and planned asks
- Apply conditional concession trading to exchange discount, payment, scope, term and service commitments for reciprocal value
- Defend commercial value with quantified ROI, total-cost-of-ownership and cost-of-delay arguments
- Run a structured late-stage negotiation using agenda control, calibrated questions, silence and summarisation techniques
- Create a mutual action plan that assigns closing milestones, owners, evidence requirements and escalation paths
- Produce a strategic deal closing playbook for a live opportunity, including risk controls and post-signature growth actions

Who should attend
- Enterprise Account Executives — who negotiate high-value opportunities with multiple buyer and procurement stakeholders
- Key Account Managers — who must protect margin while renewing and expanding strategic customer accounts
- Sales Directors — who coach deal teams and approve commercial positions on critical opportunities
- Business Development Managers — who convert complex opportunities into contracted revenue
- Commercial Managers — who govern pricing, concessions and contractual commitments across major deals
- Customer Success and Renewal Leaders — who manage retention negotiations where value, adoption and commercial terms intersect
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have experience managing business-to-business sales opportunities through discovery, proposal and commercial discussion stages. They should understand basic sales terminology such as pipeline, qualification, forecast, value proposition, margin, discount and decision-maker, and should be comfortable discussing a real or representative account during workshops. Familiarity with a CRM such as Salesforce Sales Cloud or HubSpot CRM is useful because opportunity data is used in planning exercises. No legal qualification, formal procurement training, finance degree or prior negotiation certification is required. This is not designed for complete beginners with no direct customer-facing sales experience.
Training methodology
The course combines instructor-led negotiation models with intensive deal-room practice. Participants analyse enterprise sales cases, prepare negotiation briefs in small teams, conduct timed buyer-seller role plays and receive structured feedback against commercial, behavioural and closing criteria. Exercises use CRM opportunity information, Excel-based deal economics and concession scenarios rather than generic scripts. Each day ends with application to a live or representative account. On day five, participants present their Strategic Deal Negotiation Playbook, test it through executive challenge questions and identify actions to implement in their next active negotiation.
