Course overview
Healthcare transformation portfolios must deliver change while protecting patient safety, clinical capacity, regulatory compliance and operational continuity. PMOs are increasingly asked to coordinate EPR deployments, digital front-door programmes, service redesign, interoperability initiatives and workforce changes that do not fit a traditional linear project model. This creates a practical challenge: leaders need reliable governance, forecasts and assurance, while delivery teams need authority to test, learn and release value in short cycles.
This course equips participants to operate an Agile PMO that supports healthcare delivery rather than adds reporting overhead. Participants learn to design portfolio cadences, prioritise transformation initiatives using patient, operational and strategic value criteria, build outcome-based roadmaps, manage dependencies across clinical and technical teams, and apply Agile metrics alongside formal controls. The course covers Scrum, Kanban, hybrid delivery models, benefits realisation, risk and issue management, capacity planning, release governance and executive reporting for healthcare transformation programmes.
Teaching combines instructor-led explanation with a healthcare transformation case involving an EPR-enabled outpatient pathway redesign. Participants use Jira Software, Microsoft Project and Power BI to build a working delivery control pack, including a portfolio Kanban board, prioritised initiative backlog, dependency map, benefits map, RAID log, delivery dashboard and 90-day implementation plan. They leave with a completed Agile PMO operating model tailored to a realistic healthcare scenario, plus a certificate of completion.

Requirements and prerequisites

Familiarity with Excel and simple project plans will help when working with dashboards and delivery data. No prior Agile certification, Scrum Master experience, Jira administration skills, coding knowledge or advanced Power BI capability is required. Complete beginners should expect a structured introduction to Agile concepts before applying them to healthcare portfolio scenarios.

The five days use short instructor-led modules, facilitated discussion and progressive work on a healthcare transformation case. Participants analyse a portfolio involving an EPR-enabled outpatient pathway, competing clinical priorities, supplier constraints and release-readiness decisions. They configure a Jira board, build a roadmap in Microsoft Project, define measures for a Power BI dashboard and rehearse governance conversations through role-based workshops. Daily outputs are consolidated into an Agile PMO operating model and a practical 90-day adoption plan for the participant’s own organisational context.
