Course overview
Cisco Meraki simplifies the administration of wireless, switching, security appliances, SD-WAN and endpoint environments, but the dashboard alone does not guarantee a well-managed network. Network teams must make sound decisions about organisation and network structure, templates, firmware, identity services, alerting, traffic shaping and incident response. This course addresses the operational gap between basic dashboard navigation and the disciplined management of a multi-site Meraki estate, helping practitioners reduce configuration drift, resolve faults faster and provide reliable evidence of network performance and security posture.
Participants work through the Cisco Meraki Dashboard as an operational management platform. They configure organisations, networks, administrators and role-based access; deploy and manage MR wireless, MS switches, MX security and SD-WAN appliances; apply configuration templates; monitor clients and application traffic; investigate events; and use alerting, reporting and APIs. The course develops practical methods for wireless RF troubleshooting, VLAN and switch-port configuration, firewall and traffic-shaping policy, Auto VPN validation, firmware planning, and API-driven inventory and configuration tasks.
Delivery combines instructor demonstrations with guided dashboard labs, realistic branch-network scenarios and structured troubleshooting exercises. Participants build a documented Meraki operating model for a multi-site organisation, including a network hierarchy, template strategy, administration model, alert thresholds, escalation workflow and repeatable troubleshooting checklist. They also leave with a course completion certificate and practical configuration and reporting artefacts that can be adapted for their own estate.
The course is designed for IT professionals who already support networks and need to administer, optimise or standardise Cisco Meraki deployments across one or more sites. It is equally valuable for technical leads responsible for improving visibility, governance and support readiness before a Meraki rollout or expansion.

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should be comfortable with TCP/IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, switching and basic firewall concepts. Prior experience supporting wired or wireless networks is expected, along with the ability to interpret ping, traceroute and basic client-connectivity results. Familiarity with Cisco IOS is helpful but not required; Meraki Dashboard experience is not assumed. Participants should bring a laptop capable of using a modern browser and, ideally, installing Postman and Wireshark. Programming expertise, advanced routing knowledge and prior Cisco certification are not required.
Training methodology
Instructor-led sessions introduce each Meraki capability through live Dashboard demonstrations, followed by guided labs in a realistic multi-site environment. Participants configure wireless, switching, security and SD-WAN settings, then diagnose deliberately introduced client, VLAN, VPN and uplink faults using Dashboard telemetry and Wireshark evidence. Short case studies require groups to justify template, access-control and alerting decisions. On the final day, each participant consolidates their work into a Meraki operating model and application plan for a current or planned network estate.

Day 1: Meraki architecture, governance and dashboard foundations
- Cisco Meraki cloud-management architecture and device families
- Organisation, network and configuration-template design

- Network naming, tagging and multi-site operational conventions

Workshop: Participants create a multi-site organisation design, claim devices into networks and document an administrator and template governance model.
Day 2: Wireless LAN deployment and client troubleshooting
- MR access point configuration and RF profile design
- SSID modes, VLAN tagging and IP addressing dependencies
- WPA2/WPA3 security, RADIUS authentication and guest access
- Wireless health metrics, channel utilisation and interference analysis
- Client roaming, band steering and minimum bitrate settings
- Meraki wireless troubleshooting tools and connection event analysis
- Packet capture workflows for DHCP, DNS and authentication faults
Workshop: Participants configure secure corporate and guest SSIDs, then diagnose a failed client connection using wireless health, event logs and packet capture evidence.
Day 3: Switching, segmentation and LAN policy control
- MS switch provisioning, management VLANs and port configuration

- Link aggregation, spanning tree and switch-stack operational checks

Day 4: MX security, SD-WAN and WAN assurance

- Traffic shaping, application prioritisation and bandwidth limits

Workshop: Participants implement a branch MX policy, establish Auto VPN to a hub and investigate an application-performance issue across competing WAN links.
Day 5: Operations, automation and Meraki service improvement

- Incident triage workflow using network health and event correlation
- Configuration templates, binding strategy and controlled change rollout
- Cisco Meraki Dashboard API authentication and endpoint discovery
