Course overview

Managers often receive CliftonStrengths results but struggle to convert individual reports into better team performance. Talent themes are discussed once, then disappear from one-to-ones, project allocation and performance conversations. This course addresses that gap by teaching leaders how to use Gallup Access to see team patterns, interpret CliftonStrengths 34 results responsibly and turn strengths language into practical operating agreements. Participants learn to identify where a team has natural energy, where partnerships are needed and where blind spots may affect execution, collaboration or change.

Across five instructor-led days, participants work directly with Gallup Access reports, team views and development resources. They learn to navigate individual and team CliftonStrengths data; distinguish talent, strength and weakness; facilitate strengths-based conversations; map talent themes against team responsibilities; and adapt delegation, feedback and recognition to individual contributors. The course also covers team-strengths grids, theme-domain patterns, complementary partnerships, conflict diagnosis and metrics for embedding strengths practices into management routines.

Teaching combines demonstrations in Gallup Access, coached report interpretation, leadership scenarios, peer consultation and team-planning workshops. Participants apply methods to an anonymised or approved real team dataset and build a Strengths-Based Team Leadership Action Plan. This tangible deliverable includes a team talent map, role and partnership recommendations, one-to-one questions, meeting practices, risk controls and a 90-day implementation schedule that can be used immediately with their manager or team.

The course is suited to new and experienced people leaders, HR practitioners and internal coaches who need more than familiarity with CliftonStrengths terminology. It is particularly valuable where organisations already use Gallup Access and want managers to make consistent, ethical and measurable use of its data.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Navigate Gallup Access to locate CliftonStrengths reports, team views and development resources.

  • Match team responsibilities and project roles to talent-theme contributions and complementary partnerships.
  • Facilitate a team strengths conversation that produces shared language and behavioural working agreements.
  • Diagnose collaboration and conflict risks using theme-domain patterns and practical mitigation methods.

Who should attend

  • Team Leaders — who need to translate CliftonStrengths results into daily delegation, feedback and team routines.
  • Line Managers — who lead mixed-talent teams and need a practical basis for coaching and performance conversations.
  • HR Business Partners — who support managers in embedding Gallup Access insights into talent and engagement practices.
  • Learning and Development Managers — who administer or sponsor strengths programmes and need adoption methods for leaders.
  • Internal Coaches — who use CliftonStrengths reports to structure individual and team development conversations.
  • Project Managers — who need to assemble complementary working partnerships and manage team friction across delivery work.

Requirements and prerequisites

This is a foundation-to-intermediate course. Participants should have experience working in, leading or supporting a team and should be comfortable discussing performance, development and work allocation. Access to a Gallup Access account is strongly recommended so participants can practise with the platform; an organisation-issued account with approved report access is ideal. Familiarity with CliftonStrengths is helpful but not required: complete beginners will learn the talent-theme vocabulary and report structure from the start. No psychology qualification, coaching credential, statistical analysis experience or prior Gallup certification is required.

Training methodology

The programme is delivered through live instructor demonstrations of Gallup Access, short teaching sessions and repeated application to reports and team scenarios. Participants practise reading CliftonStrengths 34 reports, building Team Strengths Grids, conducting coaching conversations and resolving leadership cases involving delegation, conflict and change. Small-group workshops compare interpretations and test management responses before facilitator feedback. Each day adds a component to an individual Strengths-Based Team Leadership Action Plan, culminating in a peer review and a practical 90-day implementation plan.

Frequently asked questions

No. The course starts with the CliftonStrengths 34 framework, the four leadership domains and the difference between talent and developed strength. Participants with prior experience will move quickly into more detailed report interpretation and team application.

A laptop is required for live online delivery and strongly recommended for classroom delivery because participants work with reports and planning templates. A Gallup Access account is strongly preferred; where organisational data cannot be used, the instructor can provide approved anonymised case materials.

It is designed primarily for managers who lead people and need to use strengths data in delegation, coaching and team development. HR business partners, learning leaders, internal coaches and project managers will also benefit where they support teams using Gallup Access.

This course focuses on leadership application inside Gallup Access rather than simply explaining theme definitions. Participants practise using team grids, report data, coaching structures, role mapping and implementation measures to change management routines.

Many conversation and working-agreement methods can be used with any team, but Gallup Access analysis requires valid CliftonStrengths results for the relevant individuals. The course explains how to introduce the approach responsibly and how to avoid making unsupported assumptions where data is incomplete.

You will leave with a completed Strengths-Based Team Leadership Action Plan, including a team talent map, partnership recommendations, one-to-one questions, team routines and a 90-day rollout schedule. You will also have reusable facilitation prompts and management templates developed during the workshops.
