Training methodology

The course uses short instructor-led demonstrations followed by guided work in an Infor WMS training environment. Participants trace inventory from receipt and putaway through allocation, replenishment, picking, and shipment, using realistic distribution-centre scenarios. Small groups diagnose inventory availability and wave-release problems from transaction evidence, then defend proposed controls and operating actions. Daily exercises produce configuration notes, decision rules, and KPI definitions. Day 3: Allocation and wave planning

  • Allocation criteria for customer priority, ship date, route, inventory status, and lot requirements
  • Wave templates, wave selection criteria, and order grouping methods
  • Wave release timing, cut-off schedules, and capacity-aware planning
  • Pick-method considerations for discrete, batch, zone, and cluster work
  • Task generation, task sequencing, and travel-reduction concepts
  • Pre-wave readiness checks for inventory, replenishment, orders, and labour capacity

Workshop: Participants build a wave-release design for mixed retail and e-commerce orders and produce documented selection criteria, grouping rules, and release checkpoints.

Day 4: Wave execution and exception management

  • Monitoring wave status, task status, and order fulfilment progress
  • Short-pick investigation and recovery decision paths
  • Allocation failure analysis for insufficient, held, incompatible, or unavailable inventory
  • Wave modification, order removal, reallocation, and controlled re-release procedures
  • Replenishment escalation during active wave execution
  • Priority-order insertion and urgent-order governance
  • Operational dashboards and reports for wave completion, shorts, and backlog analysis

Workshop: Participants work through a live wave-exception case and produce an escalation playbook covering short picks, failed allocation, urgent orders, and replenishment delays.

Day 5: Performance control and workplace application

  • Inventory-accuracy, count-compliance, and adjustment-rate performance measures
  • Wave-performance metrics including release-to-completion time, fill rate, and short-pick rate
  • Using Infor WMS inquiries and exports to build operational review packs
  • Microsoft Excel pivot-table analysis of inventory and wave transaction extracts
  • Control points for segregation of duties, adjustment authorisation, and audit evidence

  • Ninety-day improvement planning for inventory and wave-management processes
