Procurement teams are increasingly expected to demonstrate how buying decisions address environmental, social and ethical risks without weakening cost, quality, continuity or supplier performance. ISO 20400 provides a recognised framework for sustainable procurement, but organisations often struggle to translate its principles into sourcing requirements, supplier evaluation criteria, contract clauses and measurable performance controls. Requirements and prerequisites

Training methodology

The instructor uses ISO 20400:2017 as the working framework, moving from interpretation to application in each session. Short teaching segments are followed by category-risk analysis, stakeholder mapping, tender-document reviews and supplier-evaluation exercises. Teams work through a realistic sourcing case involving environmental, labour and supply-continuity considerations, then compare decisions using weighted criteria and total cost of ownership. Participants also bring a category, supplier group or procurement process into the final workshop and build a practical 90-day implementation plan with instructor feedback.

• Alignment between procurement strategy, corporate sustainability and value creation
• The procurement lifecycle from demand definition to contract exit
• ISO 20400 links to ISO 26000 and ISO 14001

Workshop: Participants complete an ISO 20400 maturity diagnostic for a selected procurement function and identify three priority gaps.

Day 2: Risk, materiality and category prioritisation
