Course overview
Human capital reporting is often assembled from disconnected HR dashboards, payroll extracts, engagement surveys and narrative statements. This makes it difficult to give executives, investors, regulators and employees a consistent account of workforce capability, cost, diversity, mobility, wellbeing and productivity. ISO 30414 provides a structured basis for defining reportable human capital information, setting calculation rules, documenting data sources and disclosing results with appropriate context. This course helps HR professionals replace ad hoc metrics with a defensible reporting process that can stand up to internal challenge and external scrutiny.
Participants work through the requirements and recommendations of ISO 30414:2025 and translate them into a practical reporting architecture. They learn to identify material human capital topics, map available HR data to disclosure measures, define metric specifications, establish numerator and denominator rules, assess data quality, and explain trends without overstating conclusions. The course also addresses governance, privacy, assurance readiness, stakeholder review and the relationship between ISO 30414 reporting, sustainability reporting and workforce planning.
Delivery combines instructor-led interpretation of the standard with worked examples, calculation clinics and a realistic reporting case. Participants build a human capital reporting pack for a case organisation, including a metric dictionary, data lineage map, disclosure table, evidence register and narrative commentary. They leave with reusable templates and a 90-day implementation plan for introducing or improving ISO 30414-aligned reporting in their own organisation.
The course is designed for intermediate HR, people analytics, sustainability, finance and assurance professionals who already work with workforce data and need a disciplined method for reporting it.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Interpret ISO 30414:2025 requirements and recommendations for human capital reporting and disclosure
- Define material human capital reporting topics using a stakeholder and decision-usefulness assessment
- Build a metric dictionary with scope, formula, numerator, denominator, frequency and data-owner fields
- Map HRIS, payroll, learning and survey data sources through a documented data-lineage process
- Calculate selected workforce, diversity, turnover, capability and productivity measures using controlled rules
- Evaluate data quality through completeness, consistency, timeliness, traceability and reconciliation checks
- Draft balanced human capital disclosures that combine metrics, methodology, trend explanation and limitations
- Produce an ISO 30414 implementation roadmap with governance roles, controls, evidence requirements and milestones
Benefits of attending
For you
- Gain working fluency in ISO 30414:2025 terminology, disclosure logic and reporting expectations
- Build a portfolio-quality human capital reporting pack that demonstrates practical reporting capability
- Strengthen credibility when challenging unclear workforce metrics, unsupported claims or inconsistent definitions
- Learn to translate HRIS and payroll data into disclosures understood by finance, sustainability and board stakeholders
- Prepare for expanded responsibilities in people analytics, ESG reporting, HR governance or non-financial assurance
For your organisation
- Establish consistent definitions and calculation rules for workforce metrics used across HR, finance and sustainability reports
- Reduce reporting risk by documenting data sources, ownership, limitations and evidence for material human capital disclosures
- Improve board and executive decisions with comparable information on workforce composition, movement, capability and cost
- Create a repeatable reporting process that is more ready for internal review, external assurance and investor questions
- Identify data gaps and control weaknesses before they result in unreliable public or management disclosures
Target competencies
Who should attend
- HR Directors and Heads of People — who need credible workforce disclosures for executive, board and external audiences
- People Analytics Managers — who must convert HR data into controlled, explainable reporting measures
- HR Reporting and Workforce Planning Specialists — who own recurring workforce metrics and reporting cycles
- Sustainability and ESG Reporting Managers — who need to connect social disclosures with reliable human capital data
- Finance, Investor Relations and Corporate Reporting Professionals — who review non-financial disclosures for consistency and assurance readiness
- Internal Audit, Risk and Assurance Professionals — who assess controls, evidence and governance over human capital information
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have practical experience working with HR metrics, workforce reports, HRIS extracts, payroll summaries or people analytics dashboards. They should understand common concepts such as headcount, full-time equivalent (FTE), turnover, absence, diversity and reporting periods, and be comfortable reviewing data in spreadsheets. Basic Microsoft Excel skills, including filtering, formulas and pivot tables, are useful because exercises use sample data. Prior knowledge of ISO standards, ESG reporting, assurance methodology, Power BI or statistical modelling is not required. Participants do not need to be HR generalists, but they should be able to interpret workforce data in an organisational context.
Training methodology
The programme uses short instructor-led sessions to interpret ISO 30414:2025, followed by calculation clinics using workforce datasets and reporting templates. Participants analyse a case organisation’s HRIS, payroll, learning and engagement data, decide which measures are reportable, and test definitions against real reporting ambiguities. Small-group workshops focus on materiality, data lineage, narrative disclosure and review controls. Each participant completes an end-of-course application plan that identifies priority metrics, accountable owners, data gaps, validation steps and the next reporting-cycle milestones for their organisation.
