The result is avoidable stock-outs, excess purchasing, delayed picking, unexplained adjustments, and poor confidence in operational reports. This course addresses the practical configuration decisions behind reliable Odoo Inventory operations: how warehouses, routes, locations, products, units of measure, replenishment rules, and validation controls should work together in a live operating environment.
Participants configure Odoo Inventory to support receiving, putaway, internal transfers, picking, packing, shipping, returns, cycle counts, and inventory adjustments. They learn to design multi-step warehouse flows, configure push and pull rules, set reordering rules and order points, use lead times, apply lot and serial number traceability, establish removal strategies, and control user access. The course also examines the operational links between Odoo Inventory, Purchase, Sales, Manufacturing, and Barcode workflows, enabling participants to diagnose the configuration causes of common stock and fulfilment problems.
Teaching combines instructor demonstrations with guided configuration in a working Odoo training database. Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should understand core inventory concepts such as stock on hand, receipts, deliveries, internal transfers, replenishment, purchase orders, sales orders, and physical stock counts. They should also be comfortable navigating Odoo records, lists, forms, filters, and basic settings; prior use of Odoo Inventory in an operational or support role is strongly recommended. Experience configuring Odoo is helpful but not essential. No programming, Python, database administration, API integration, accounting qualification, or advanced warehouse automation experience is required. Participants will work in a provided Odoo training environment rather than a production database.
Training methodology
The programme uses instructor-led configuration walkthroughs, short operational design briefings, and daily hands-on work in an Odoo training database. Participants configure warehouse scenarios rather than merely observe demonstrations: receiving and delivery routes, putaway logic, order points, serial tracking, cycle counts, and barcode actions. Small-group case work compares alternative warehouse designs and identifies control risks. Each day closes with a practical output that feeds the final configuration blueprint, where participants prioritise changes, define test cases, and prepare an implementation plan for their own operation.
Course outline
Day 1: Warehouse structure and inventory master data
- Odoo Inventory architecture: warehouses, locations, operations, routes, and stock moves
- Warehouse configuration for one-step, two-step, and three-step receipt and delivery flows
- Internal, transit, vendor, customer, inventory-loss, and production location purposes
- Product types, inventory tracking settings, and stockable-product configuration
- Units of measure, packaging definitions, and quantity conversion controls
- Operation types, default source and destination locations, and sequence settings
- User roles, access rights, and operational segregation of duties
Workshop: Configure a warehouse model for a distributor with separate receiving, quality, storage, packing, and dispatch locations, then document the proposed location hierarchy.
Day 2: Routes, replenishment, and procurement signals
- Pull rules and demand-driven movement logic
- Push rules for automatic movement between warehouse zones
- Routes for buy, manufacture, make-to-order, dropship, and resupply flows
- Reordering rules, minimum quantities, maximum quantities, and multiples
- Forecasted inventory, availability dates, and replenishment dashboard analysis
- Vendor lead times, security lead times, and planned replenishment dates
- Inventory links with Odoo Purchase and Odoo Manufacturing
Workshop: Build replenishment rules for fast-moving, seasonal, and make-to-order items and test the purchase and internal-transfer proposals generated by demand.
Day 3: Warehouse execution and barcode-enabled handling
- Receipt, pick, pack, delivery, and return operation workflows
- Putaway rules based on product category, package type, and storage location
- Removal strategies: FIFO, LIFO, FEFO, and closest-location selection
- Batch, wave, and cluster picking concepts in Odoo operations
- Odoo Barcode application configuration for receiving, transfers, and picking
- Packages, package types, shipping weights, and handling-unit controls
- Backorders, partial availability, and exception handling during validation
Workshop: Configure a barcode-supported receiving and pick-pack-ship process with putaway rules and a defined backorder decision path.
Day 4: Traceability, counts, and inventory control
- Lot and serial number configuration for traceable products
- Expiry dates, best-before dates, removal dates, and alert settings
- Traceability reports and end-to-end stock move genealogy
- Inventory adjustments, cycle counts, and scheduled inventory-count procedures
- Quants, reserved quantities, on-hand quantities, and forecasted quantities
- Stock move history, operation status, and discrepancy investigation
- Inventory valuation concepts and the relationship between stock movements and accounting
Workshop: Investigate a simulated stock discrepancy, reconcile the move history and quants, complete a controlled adjustment, and produce a traceability report.
Day 5: Configuration governance and implementation blueprint
- Inventory configuration review checklist and dependency mapping
- Process-to-configuration mapping for warehouse operating procedures
- Test scripts for receipts, replenishment, transfers, delivery, returns, and counts
- Master-data governance for products, locations, lots, and reorder parameters
- Key inventory performance measures: service level, inventory accuracy, turnover, and fulfilment lead time
- Change control, user training, and production cutover considerations
- Configuration documentation and post-go-live support planning
Workshop: Create and present an Odoo Inventory configuration blueprint containing target workflows, settings, test cases, controls, owners, and a 90-day improvement plan.
