Course overview
Inventory and order teams depend on Oracle NetSuite to show what is available, where stock is held, which customer orders can be fulfilled, and when replenishment action is needed. When item records, locations, bins, transaction statuses, or allocation rules are poorly controlled, the result is familiar: stockouts despite apparent availability, delayed fulfilment, duplicate purchasing, inaccurate promise dates, and difficult month-end reconciliation. This course addresses the operational decisions behind those records and transactions, helping participants use NetSuite as a controlled system of record rather than a retrospective reporting tool.
Participants work through the inventory-to-order lifecycle in Oracle NetSuite: item and location configuration, inventory status and bin controls, purchasing receipts, transfers, adjustments, demand and replenishment settings, sales order management, commitment, pick-pack-ship fulfilment, returns, and operational reporting. They learn to diagnose inventory discrepancies, select appropriate transaction types, interpret available, committed, on-hand, and on-order quantities, and build saved searches and SuiteAnalytics Workbook views for exception management. The course also examines approval controls, audit trails, role permissions, and the practical distinction between standard NetSuite processes and Advanced WMS capabilities.
Delivery combines instructor demonstrations with a realistic multi-location distribution case. Participants configure operational records, process transactions through simulated exceptions, investigate variance scenarios, and make replenishment and fulfilment decisions using NetSuite data. Each participant leaves with an Inventory and Order Operations Playbook: a practical set of process maps, control checkpoints, saved-search specifications, KPI definitions, and an action plan for improving an identified workflow in their own environment.
The course is best suited to professionals already working with NetSuite inventory, purchasing, warehousing, customer orders, or operations reporting, as well as managers responsible for improving fulfilment reliability and inventory accuracy.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Configure item, location, bin, inventory status, and replenishment settings for controlled multi-location operations
- Process purchase receipts, inventory transfers, adjustments, and counts using the correct NetSuite transaction workflows
- Interpret on-hand, available, committed, backordered, and on-order quantities to resolve fulfilment decisions
- Apply sales order commitment, allocation, pick-pack-ship, and return workflows to manage order exceptions
- Build saved searches for stockout risk, overdue orders, negative inventory, and inventory variance monitoring
- Create a SuiteAnalytics Workbook dashboard view for inventory and order-fulfilment operational KPIs
- Diagnose inventory discrepancies by tracing transaction histories, system notes, and inventory detail records
- Produce an Inventory and Order Operations Playbook with process controls, exception rules, and improvement actions
Benefits of attending
For you
- Gain the ability to investigate stock and fulfilment exceptions directly from NetSuite transaction evidence
- Build credible operational reports and saved-search specifications for discussions with finance, warehouse, and sales teams
- Strengthen readiness for roles in inventory control, order operations, supply planning, or NetSuite functional administration
- Learn to distinguish configuration issues from execution errors before escalating problems to an implementation partner
- Leave with a documented improvement playbook that can support a measurable workplace process initiative
For your organisation
- Reduce avoidable stockouts and delayed shipments through better use of availability, commitment, and replenishment data
- Improve inventory record accuracy by standardising receipt, transfer, adjustment, count, and variance investigation procedures
- Create clearer exception visibility for negative inventory, late orders, demand gaps, and unprocessed transactions
- Lower control risk by applying appropriate transaction approvals, role access, system-note review, and audit-trail practices
- Improve cross-functional decisions with shared KPI definitions and practical inventory-to-fulfilment process maps
Target competencies
Who should attend
- Inventory Controllers — who need dependable stock records, variance investigation methods, and replenishment controls
- Order Management Specialists — who manage commitments, backorders, fulfilment exceptions, and customer promise dates
- Warehouse Operations Supervisors — who need to align physical receiving, bin movements, counts, and shipping with NetSuite transactions
- Procurement and Supply Planners — who use demand, preferred stock levels, and purchasing signals to prevent supply gaps
- NetSuite Administrators — who support inventory and order workflows, roles, forms, searches, and data controls
- Operations Managers — who need visibility of inventory accuracy, fulfilment performance, and process bottlenecks
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have practical experience navigating Oracle NetSuite and understand the basic purpose of item records, purchase orders, sales orders, inventory receipts, and item fulfilments. Familiarity with their organisation's locations, warehouses, and order-to-cash process is strongly recommended. Participants should be comfortable using spreadsheets to review operational data and should bring examples of recurring inventory or fulfilment issues where permitted. Prior SuiteScript development, accounting configuration, Advanced WMS implementation experience, or formal NetSuite certification is not required. This is not a first-time NetSuite navigation course; complete beginners should attend a NetSuite fundamentals course first.
Training methodology
The five-day programme uses instructor-led walkthroughs of Oracle NetSuite followed by guided work in a training environment. Participants configure item and location controls, process receiving and fulfilment transactions, and investigate deliberately introduced stock and order exceptions. A continuing multi-location distribution case links each exercise to operational decisions about availability, replenishment, and customer commitments. Short group reviews compare control choices and escalation paths. On the final day, participants convert their case findings into an Inventory and Order Operations Playbook and a workplace application plan.
Course outline
Day 1: Inventory data foundations and control design
- NetSuite inventory and order transaction lifecycle
- Item record types and inventory-related field controls
- Location, subsidiary, bin, and inventory status structures
- Units of measure, costing context, and item availability concepts
- Preferred stock level, reorder point, and lead-time parameters
- Role permissions, custom forms, and operational segregation of duties
- Inventory detail records and system notes for traceability
Workshop: Participants configure a controlled item and multi-location operating model for a distribution case and document the required data standards.
Day 2: Inventory movement, receipt, and accuracy operations
