Course overview
Transportation teams lose control when order releases arrive with incomplete data, routing decisions depend on spreadsheets, carriers receive late tenders, and freight invoices cannot be matched to the shipment actually executed. Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) can standardise these processes, but operational value depends on users who understand how orders, rates, itineraries, shipments, tenders, events, and invoices connect. This course prepares practitioners to operate OTM with the discipline needed to improve service performance, freight-cost control, and exception response.
Participants work through the OTM operational lifecycle, from creating and validating order releases through planning shipments, selecting rates, tendering carriers, monitoring execution events, managing exceptions, and auditing freight payment. They learn to interpret OTM screen sets and saved queries, apply rate and itinerary logic, use bulk planning and action workflows, investigate failed automation, manage shipment modifications, and produce operational reports. The course also examines the operational controls behind master data quality, carrier commitments, access roles, and integration error handling.
Delivery combines instructor-led demonstrations with guided exercises in a configured OTM environment. Each day uses realistic scenarios involving multi-stop shipments, capacity constraints, late carrier responses, appointment changes, accessorial charges, and invoice discrepancies. Participants finish with an OTM Operations Playbook: a practical set of workflow maps, saved-query requirements, exception-handling procedures, KPI definitions, and improvement actions tailored to their operating model. It provides both the attendee and their manager with a usable post-course reference for applying learning on the job.
The course is designed for experienced logistics, transport, and supply chain professionals working with OTM or preparing to take ownership of its day-to-day operation. Familiarity with browser-based enterprise applications and spreadsheet analysis is expected. Prior exposure to Oracle Transportation Management is helpful but not mandatory; participants who are new to OTM should first understand their organisation’s transport process and master-data terminology. No programming, database administration, Oracle certification, or prior Oracle Integration Cloud experience is required.
Training methodology
The course uses short instructor-led explanations followed by guided work in Oracle Transportation Management. Participants create order releases, review rate and itinerary outcomes, run planning actions, tender shipments, process tracking events, and reconcile freight invoices against realistic transport scenarios. Case discussions examine operational decisions such as whether to re-tender, re-plan, split a shipment, approve an accessorial, or escalate a carrier failure. Small-group workshops compare control options and KPI measures. On the final day, each participant converts course outputs into a role-specific OTM Operations Playbook and application plan.

- Order release creation, validation, and lifecycle status management
- Ship unit, packaged item, equipment, and weight-volume data controls
- Locations, contacts, calendars, and time-zone considerations
- Order modifications, releases, cancellations, and audit history
Workshop: Participants create and validate a set of order releases, build saved queries for an operations queue, and document the data defects that would prevent planning.
Day 2: Rates, routes, and shipment planning

Day 4: Visibility, exceptions, and freight payment control
